The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is pleased to be a lead sponsor at SVLG's 2024 Inclusion & Belonging Summit. This year's summit is aimed at discussing the constantly changing and developing DEI landscape amidst national headwinds. “My name is Jelani Moreno. This Spring 2024, I will proudly graduate from Las Positas College with an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts & Science, with a focus on Math & Sciences. As a Puentista and a first-generation college student, my journey has been marked by both challenges & triumphs. I am determined to become the first in my family to attain a bachelor’s degree. I chose to go to Las Positas College because they provided the Puente Program. This program has been instrumental in my success, providing not only academic support but also creating a nurturing & inclusive environment where I could thrive. Through Puente, I have formed meaningful friendships, created lasting memories, & encountered opportunities that have proudly shaped my college experience. For this, I will be forever grateful. As for the next steps of my journey, my sights are set on pursuing a career in radiology. I plan to apply next winter to Radiology Programs, such as Kaiser’s School of Allied Health Sciences & CSUN. In celebration of our 2024 graduating class, we are doing student spotlights showcasing your journeys at Chabot and what’s to come. Meet Cynthia, she is second generation immigrant and first in her family to go to college. Through her journey at Chabot, she was able to find her passion and hopes to continue her education by applying to the Kaiser Permanente School of Allied Health Sciences. She will be graduating debt free as the flexibility of community college, like Chabot, allowed her to balance work while continuing her studies. Congratulations Cynthia!
