Two years ago, Melissa Hurrington bravely asked to gather all the women in the audience for a group photo. Since then, Melissa has become a key thought-leader and advocate, serving on the Omaha CFO Leadership Council Advisory Board and more recently as a founding member of our Women Leaders CONNECT group. CFO & VP of Operations - Wife - Mom - CFOLC Chapter President - Lifelong Learner - Fierce Advocate for Women

EMPOWERED WOMEN EMPOWER WOMEN The room at The CFO Leadership Council was Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dream and Harrison Butker’s nightmare. Make no mistake, RBG was right…. “Women belong in all places where decisions are made” Yet, only 18.5% of Fortune 500 CFOs are female. The tide is undeniably changing, no matter how painfully slow. But what I love most about this photo is that there isn’t a single crab in the bucket to be found. This is a stage full of powerful women who are dedicating their careers to not only achieving success, but making sure we bring others along with us. We are battered and bruised and have wild stories that you would wish were a best selling fiction book if not for the scars we all have to show for it. BUT we are here. We are proud. We are loud. We advocate for ourselves and for our peers. We are a force to be reckoned with. We aren’t willing to tolerate the behavior of the past. You won’t speak over us. You won’t hold us back. We have fully stepped in to our power. We won’t be silenced. Our voices are strong, loud, bold… and the world is going to hear us coming. 🌎 ❤️

Things you might not know about that moment before the first photo 2 years ago…. 1. I almost didn’t even come to the conference because I was intimidated. I said to my husband “but these are REAL CFO’s at real companies” 2. The day of I almost never left my hotel room. I was terrified I’d walk in to a room of people and instantly know I had no business being there. 3. I fully expected the room to look like what most CSuites look like in America…. And was fully shocked but the level of diversity in the crowd, from all different demographics 4. All day long, if I’m being fully transparent, I was showing up as the version of me I thought the room demanded. Toned down. Quiet. Reserved. Controlled. Constantly adjusting my (subtle) animal print blouse and questioning my choice of trousers with a leather stripe. 5. Then that last keynote took the stage and I was genuinely overcome with emotion. Sitting there in awe of a keynote at a CFO conference with both the main speaker and the moderator a female…. Talking about sports…. And I couldn’t believe it. 6. My motives were self serving…. I wanted…. NEEDED…. To document this moment that was so drastically different than what my head had envisioned at the start of the day

So amazing to see these strong finance leaders all on one stage!
