On January 30, I had the honour of attending the Carnegie Initiative Summit, where Canadian Tire Corporation's workshop on "Building Effective Networks and Navigating Relationships" was held. The presenter, @Biju Pappachan, and the panellists, @Ashley Curran, Bobby Sahni, Lindsay Pennal, Marsha-Gaye Knight BSc, PDip, MSc. Knight BSc, PDip, MSc, and Brett Peterson, gave a fantastic talk on developing strategic connections and negotiating the complex world of networking. I want to thank them for giving us such an amazing educational opportunity.
The goal of the Carnegie Initiative is to make hockey a more welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment. The purpose of the Summit is to provide a safe space for panellists and thought leaders to have insightful and meaningful conversations on the difficulties and development. I'd like to highlight a few significant points from the Summit:
Bobby Sahni's emphasis on multiculturalism throughout this panel discussion provided me with valuable insights. Living in a varied city like Toronto, it's critical to understand that the ways of connecting and forming networks differ between cultures. To make the most of our networking efforts, we must first understand how different cultures interact. As a Sport and Event Marketing student at George Brown, I intend to use this expertise to build social capital and effectively launch my career in the field.
I was also impressed by how Biju Pappachan expounded on the need of devoting time to individuals in order to build better networks. When connecting on social media, including a personal note can make the connection more meaningful and help to foster true relationships.
Ms Lindsay Pennal demonstrated beautifully how taking a different approach may lead to the formation of stronger relationships. Furthermore, Brett Peterson emphasized the value of listening skills, based on his extensive experience as a general manager. Patience in listening is vital for understanding team members' cognitive processes.
Thank you again for hosting such an informative event. There's nothing quite like learning from professionals in the area. I am excited to put these excellent teachings into practice in both my personal and professional life.
