This marketing Myth needs to die asap:
People go through tiers before they close.
AKA the funnel.
So many people underpin their entire marketing strategy on this. It’s as if we think we can put our marketing into one neat, unified theory and solve all our problems.
In B2B ads, it plays out like this:
Run an awareness level ad → retarget to mid-funnel → retarget to bottom of the funnel
It’s neat and tidy.
It gives you the illusion you’re ‘funnelling’ people to buy.
But humans don’t usually behave like this.
I’ve found that the more you assume everyone is in the consideration phase, the better your results.
So I don’t worry about what order people see ads.
If they see the bottom of funnel ad first - that’s cool with me.
If they don’t see the middle-of-funnel ad - i’m ok with it.
Let’s focus on putting campaigns out there.
