This move comes as Colorado secures $826 million in federal funding to achieve over 99% home connectivity by 2027. Reitter highlighted the significance of fixed wireless, especially in challenging terrains like mountains and canyons where #fiberdeployment is costly and complex. By including fixed wireless, Colorado aims to assist smaller ISPs in providing faster, more affordable connectivity to remote areas. Senator John Hickenlooper, also present at the event, emphasized the need for diverse technologies, including fixed wireless and satellite constellations, to achieve widespread broadband access in Colorado's diverse landscape. This approach stands in contrast to other states like California, where a "fiber-above-all" strategy has dominated. Steve Schwerbel from the Wireless Internet Service Provider Association (WISPA) supported Colorado's tech-neutral approach, highlighting that the best technology should be chosen based on specific project needs. The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted the opinion drafted by the rapporteur Maurizio Mensi on the Gigabit Infrastructure Act #GIA. ❗ This important document notes that: 1️⃣ The EESC supports the choice of regulation over a directive as the legal instrument and calls for faster, simplified procedures to be consistently applied throughout the EU to avoid duplication, and save costs. 2️⃣ The EESC also acknowledges that the deployment of Very High Capacity Networks (VHCN) is crucial for the EU's socio-economic cohesion and competitiveness.  The EESC opinion provides new input for the ongoing discussions with the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on the legislative proposal that will replace the current Broadband Cost Reduction Directive #BCRD.
