Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th each year and marks the famous day in 1865 when the enslaved people of Texas learned they were finally free, a full two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was delivered by President Lincoln. Juneteenth symbolizes the hard fought end of slavery in the United States. The holiday is a time for modern Americans to reflect on the struggles of African Americans throughout our history and to celebrate their culture and progress. In recent years, Juneteenth has been recognized as a federal holiday, promoting freedom and America's ongoing journey towards equality. We're better together, and that's why we're honored to participate in regularly scheduled Century Park Service Days.
