"The more common objections to nuclear power have already been answered. Nuclear waste, for instance, can be stored safely in dry casks on the plant grounds. And the concern that more nuclear power could risk the proliferation of nuclear weapons only highlights the need for the United States to remain more involved in nuclear energy. The aspiration must be for the United States, not its adversaries, to lead the world on this technology." Couldn't agree more with Rob Gebelhoff of The Washington Post, who wrote about recent bipartisan action in the Senate to support deployment of carbon free #nuclear energy. As he notes in the piece, actions like this tend to be overlooked because they enjoy wide, bipartisan support and aren't controversial -- but that doesn't make them any less impactful. https://lnkd.in/e5bTipqD

Exciting to see TerraPower founder Bill Gates join CBS News to speak about his confidence in the momentum supporting the next generation of #nuclear power.   With the backing of the federal government, it is critical that we continue to build up our domestic enriched uranium supply chain to power next-generation reactors, such as TerraPower's Natrium™ reactor in Wyoming. Our memorandum of understanding with TerraPower will ensure that the demonstration reactor has access to #HALEU – a key step in establishing commercial-scale domestic production capabilities. Congratulations to TerraPower, Bill Gates, Governor Mark Gordon and others who made this milestone possible. The HALEU-fueled Natrium reactor is a game-changing advanced reactor design. Not only will it provide reliable, affordable, carbon free electricity, but it also incorporates innovative molten salt energy storage technology. This enables the reactor to run at full power 24-7 with minimal downtime, while storing some of the energy produced and releasing it when demand is highest or when intermittent renewable generation falls off. It is a perfect example of how nuclear, wind and solar can be complementary technologies working together to build a sustainable, 21st century power grid.

A big thanks to the National Association of Manufacturers - NAM for highlighting Centrus' work in reclaiming American leadership in nuclear fuel production. Uranium enrichment is high-tech manufacturing and is vital to our energy future and #nationalsecurity.

We are proud to be recognized by an organization dedicated to strengthening America's manufacturing sector. A robust domestic manufacturing industry is vital to America's future; if we want to be a global economic leader, we need to make things here at home. Producing enriched uranium fuel is a perfect example of that, since it is crucial to our energy security as well as our national security and our global influence on nonproliferation. Centrus President & CEO Amir Vexler was honored to participate in yesterday’s White House Summit on Domestic Nuclear Deployment. Amir offered his views as part of a panel discussion on cooperation with Canada to build a North American nuclear fuel supply chain. Canada is a global leader in uranium mining and uranium conversion, but does not have enrichment facilities because its existing fleet of CANDU heavy water reactors operate on natural (i.e. unenriched) uranium. However, Canada now has ambitious plans to deploy a new generation of advanced reactors that will require Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) or High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU.) With sufficient funding and financing, Centrus’ American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, could scale up to meet the LEU and HALEU needs of both countries as well as other international partners.
