It's no secret that politics can be messy. So, what does that mean for energy policy on cleaner fuels? Join us on Wednesday, January 31, for a virtual fireside chat. We will explore how current and emerging policies are impacting support for investment in the necessary projects, technology, and infrastructure to decarbonize Canada’s fuel production. We will also discuss how politics and policies can diverge and what this may communicate about Canadian priorities; Canada's capacity to manage energy supply including renewables, possible impacts at a provincial level, policy disparities. David Schick, VP Western Canada, Innovation and Regulatory Affairs at the Canadian Fuels Association - Association canadienne des carburants, and the Cleaner Fuels Theme Lead at CRIN, will be joined by Professor Monica Gattinger, Founding Chair, Positive Energy at the University of Ottawa and Bill Whitelaw, Managing Director of Sustainability and Strategy at geoLOGIC systems ltd. First Nations are uniquely positioned to lead the energy transition in Canada and play a pivotal role in shaping a future where Indigenous values, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development converge to create a more equitable and resilient energy landscape for generations to come. #ICYMI, Day 2 of the #FNMPC2024 Conference was earmarked by leaders demonstrating how the energy and major projects landscape is already being driven by First Nations, including: - The announcement of the National Indigenous Electrification Strategy report, developed in collaboration with the First Nations Major Projects Coalition and Mokwateh. The strategy outlines the role of Indigenous nations at the forefront of the expansion and decarbonization of Canada's #electricity grid, including power generation, transmission, storage, and distribution capacity. - FNMPC's Chief Sustainability Officer, Mark Podlasly ICD.D, and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland held a fireside chat that explored the recently introduced federal Indigenous loan guarantee program(#ILGP). - The integration of Indigenous #consent and ownership in the life cycle of #SMRs will be vital, ensuring that these advancements in energy align with the principles of self-determination and respect for Indigenous lands and traditions. "Indigenous economic participation is the essential step to reconciliation and is going to make [Canadian] major projects better and built faster. Bringing prosperity not only to Indigenous communities but all Canadians.” - Minister Freeland Explore the National Indigenous Electrification Strategy Report: https://lnkd.in/gM2AyQmb

😀 We are very happy to announce 📢 that the article "Development transitions for fossil fuel-producing low and lower–middle income countries in a carbon-constrained world" (which CCG helped to fund) has been published in Nature Energy. 🎉 🎈 🥂 The paper conceptualizes that, depending on country context, three types of development transition follow from declining fossil fuel production and use for LLMIC producers, namely (1) an energy transition, (2) an economic transition and (3) an equitable fossil fuel production transition. The paper proposes a classification of these transitions. The author team includes many of our 💙 colleagues and dear friends 💛 and we congratulate them all on this excellent contribution to the debate about how to help #LMICs currently dependent on 🔥 fossil fuels, move away from them and towards a #cleanenergyfuture future with the jobs and new opportunities that will bring. ⚡ Vivien Foster, Philipp Trotter, Sven Werner, Melin Niedermayer, Yacob Mulugetta, Ploy Achakulwisut, Aoife Brophy, Navroz Dubash, Sam Fankhauser, Adam Hawkes, Stephanie Hirmer, Stuart Jenkins, Sam Loni - سیامک لونی, Alexis McGivern, Khamphone Nanthavong, Benedict Probst, Steve Pye, Vladimir Russo, Gregor Semieniuk, PhD, Carlos Shenga, Vignesh Sridharan, Sugandha Srivastav, Youba Sokona, Lucas Somavilla Croxatto, Ph.D. and Pu Yang If you have a subscription, you can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/efuqPtZd Ayrton Fund Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Imperial College London Loughborough University
