We believe ending plastic waste depends on building a #CircularEconomy for plastics. We're determined to play a transformational role and drive action with our value chain partners. To that end, we are collaborating with Alliance to End Plastic Waste as they develop solutions that are environmentally beneficial, socially responsible, and economically replicable. In their latest Progress Report, read about the steps the organization has taken to #EndPlasticWaste: https://ow.ly/EFLF50Phq1M

The production, use and disposal of plastics products have led to widespread contamination of the environment, particularly in oceans and waterways. Plastics do not biodegrade easily; instead they break down into smaller pieces known as microplastics that persist in the environment for hundreds of years. This has severe consequences, including harm to marine life, contamination of the food chain, pollution of soil and water, and significant economic impacts. The plastic pollution crisis demands immediate action. Let's work together to reduce plastic waste, promote sustainability, and create a cleaner future for all. #Pavingtheroadtosustainaiblity

Today marks (almost exactly) five years since the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and UN Environment Programme launched the Global Commitment – the largest global voluntary effort to tackle plastic waste and pollution. In that time, signatories have proven that progress is possible. But the world remains off track. With greenhouse gas emissions from plastic production expected to more than double by 2060, it is clear that we need to do more – *more* accelerated voluntary business action *and* (not either) *more* ambitious, binding policy measures. Today, we have published a reflection paper – The Global Commitment Five Years In – to help inform business leaders, policymakers, and negotiators of the international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution of the actions now so urgently needed to drive progress further, faster, together.
How can we drive progress further, faster? The Global Commitment, launched in 2018 by the Foundation and UN Environment Programme, has shown it is possible to make meaningful progress to tackle plastic waste and pollution. But, the world remains significantly off track. Live now, read the Global Commitment Five Years In paper to find out more:https://lnkd.in/emyCSrcq
