Happy Friday!
Sharing something for those struggling in the job market. This slide really moved me from Jyo Shukla's talk for South Asian Success, esp that 85% of jobs are filled via networking! (Maranda Dziekonski (she/her) I saw you noted this stat recently too).
🤝 Don't only spend your time clicking through applications, spend time connecting. The latter may prove more valuable.
📖 Consider reskilling, everyone needs a refresher and in the world of AI, everyone can learn again. An AI course on Coursera by Vanderbilt University was recommended to me so sharing that rec below!
🐤🐧 Build frameworks for adaptability in your life. How do you take your core skills from life, and build a career? (I recently read a book about Darwin with my kids so hence the birds)
and one from me...
🧘🏾 Find ways to promote mental health, in whichever form you prefer. This is a tougher market/hiring manager's market and the numbers are skewed - it may not be forever, but is for now.
"CS as a concept is a testament to resilience..." the fact that we are still around, despite so many changes and people negating the function, is reslience.
I am paraphrasing the words of Jyo Shukla from our high impact session! Thanks for sharing your journey.
This slide really spoke to me and the plight of many today, sharing it for the broader community.
We do not record Chai Chats so we can fully engage, but will be sharing the slides in Meltingspot!
