As a Dietician are we paid Enough! Are you aware of the silent crisis lurking in the healthcare sector? As a clinical dietitian, I've witnessed firsthand the glaring disparities in compensation despite the crucial role we play in patient care. Let's delve into the numbers to shed light on this pressing issue. 🏥 Hospital Income Breakdown: - IPD Earnings: With 1750 patient admissions per month, at a consultation fee of ₹600, dietitians contribute a substantial ₹10,50,000. - OPD Earnings: Serving 5 patients daily at ₹600 each sums up to ₹78,000 monthly. - Supplement Sales: Catering to the nutritional needs of patients, dietitians generate additional revenue through supplement prescriptions, amounting to an impressive ₹3,51,000 monthly. 💰 Total Earnings for Dietitians: Adding up IPD, OPD, and supplement earnings, each dietitian contributes approximately ₹14,79,000 annually to the hospital's revenue. 👩⚕️ Dietitian Compensation: - Head of Department (HOD): ₹70,000 - Senior Dietitian: ₹50,000 - Junior Dietitians (x4): ₹25,000 each The total expenditure on dietitian salaries is a mere fraction of their contribution, totaling ₹2,20,000 monthly. 🤔 The Disparity Unveiled: Despite the substantial revenue generated by dietitians, the disparity between their earnings and the compensation they receive is staggering. While unskilled laborers in other sectors earn significantly more, healthcare professionals like us are undervalued and underpaid. 👉 Call to Action: It's time to address this disparity and advocate for fair compensation for healthcare professionals. By raising awareness and initiating conversations, we can work towards creating a more equitable healthcare system where every contributor is duly recognized and rewarded for their invaluable service. Join me in raising awareness about this issue and let's strive for a healthcare sector where every healthcare professional receives fair compensation for their dedication and hard work. #Healthcare #UnderpaidProfessionals #FairCompensation #ClinicalDietitians #Advocacy #EquityInHealthcare

As public healthcare leaders, it's our job to ensure a safe, comfortable healing environment for our patients. Although patient safety initiatives have generally focused on process improvements in regards to technical, organizational, and patient areas, I believe we need to enhance our focus on staff working conditions to make the biggest impact. The quality of work for healthcare employees will directly impact patient safety and health outcomes. If we can create a better experience for employees, we will likely improve the patient experience as well. #PatientSafety #Healthcare #PublicHealthLeadership

This refreshing attempt at transparency advice in yesterday's Irish Independent from Bernard Gloster, the new CEO of the HSE in Ireland, to patients sounds like a breath of fresh air from the HSE Ireland organisation, where sadly this has not always been the patient experience up to now. So, let’s hope GP’s, Consultants and HSE front-line staff around the country have been trained and briefed on how to respond accordingly If you need more information about your treatment, care or diagnosis, the four key questions to be asked according to Mr Gloster, when attending a medical appointment are: 1. What do I need to know now? 2. What do I need to do next? 3. What can I expect? 4. How will this help me? "Our key message to you is: if you’re not sure, please ask us,” Mr Gloster said. "Most people we know have had an experience as a patient, or as an advocate for a child, a parent or sibling where they have struggled with healthcare information or instructions. This can impact everything from medication safety to the outcomes of care. “We want patients and their families to get involved in the design and delivery of services. Your input and experience are valued. Meaningful conversations matter - in all our engagements, whether it’s an appointment with your GP, a visit from the public health nurse or as a member of a working group.”
