According to GoDaddy's Venture Forward study, this growth is not just a statistic; it's a vibrant movement reshaping the entrepreneurial landscape. Particularly, Black women are making significant strides in the microbusiness space, contributing immensely to this surge. This trend reflects a broader awakening and an exciting shift towards greater economic empowerment and innovation within the Black community. As barriers are dismantled and opportunities are seized, Black business owners are stepping into the spotlight, ready to drive forward their visions and impact the market in dynamic ways. Dear Community Members, As we gear up for the Rise Up Pitch Competition this Friday, May 17, we're delighted to share some exciting updates with you. Since its inception, the Rise Up program has made a significant impact on the lives of Black female founders, and this year is no exception. · Nearly 1000 talented applicants applied, showcasing the incredible entrepreneurial spirit within our community. · Our dedicated team of 27 volunteers from companies like RBC, BDC, and Hydro One worked tirelessly to assess each application, ensuring a fair and thorough review process. · Over 200 Black women benefited from 6 workshops featuring 10 hours of invaluable insights from industry experts. · After a rigorous selection process, 24 Semi-Finalists emerged, each with a unique and promising business idea. · Our 7 Pitch Coaches provided 12 hours of personalized coaching to help Semi-Finalists refine their pitches and present with confidence. · On Pitch Day, our panel of 12 Judges will evaluate the pitches and select the 8 Finalists who will compete for a share of the $80,000 in cash awards. Let’s celebrate #BlackBusinessMonth with a powerful perspective shift:  In 2020, Black individuals comprised 14.2% of the U.S. population. With Black business ownership’s current growth rate of 4.72%, a striking reality comes into focus: achieving equality with population representation would take 256 years. Imagine the transformation if we recalibrate this equation. According to the Alliance for Entrepreneurial Equity, Black-owned businesses contributed $141.1 billion to the economy in 2020. Envision the exponential growth if we close the gap: a potential landscape of 738,000 additional Black-owned businesses, generating seven million jobs and a remarkable $733 billion surge in revenue!   However, challenges persist. Goldman Sachs reports a threefold higher funding rejection rate for Black business owners compared to their White peers. For Black women #entrepreneurs, the path is even more difficult, illustrated by fewer than 100 securing $1 million+ in venture capital funding last year.   But here’s where the story transforms: The EY Entrepreneurs Access Network (EAN) is set to change this by channeling energy into growth for Black and Hispanic/Latino entrepreneurs. EAN steps into that gap to drive recognition and resources and provides a powerful ecosystem that enables them to uplift a single community and the entire country.   Let’s champion this journey together.
