Two very different campaigns, with very similar marketing objectives, uniting with a common goal in a one-off partnership. 👨👨👧👦 - Target Audiences Both Quins and 20th Century Studios will be targeting the same audience to a) attend their flagship summer rugby match and b) watch the new Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes movie. 🗓️ - Campaign Timeline With Harlequins’ “Big Summer Kick Off” matchday taking place on Saturday 27th April, and 20th Century Studios’ release of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes releasing on 9th May - both parties are speaking to the same audience at the same time - why not combine and double the efforts? 🤝🏼 - Brand Parallels The “Together Strong” slogan, combined with the movie storyline draws great parallels of those of a rugby team. Today Harlequins have confirmed a new collaboration with 20th Century Studios to promote their blockbuster movie ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ at Big Summer Kick-Off on Saturday 27 April at Twickenham Stadium. Teaming up for Big Summer Kick-Off, Harlequins and ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ will activate a range of exciting activations to promote the film and support Quins’ showpiece summer match against table toppers Northampton Saints in front of 60,000 rugby fans. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is in UK cinemas on Thursday 9 May. We just saw Game 162 play out on Sunday in #MLB and I already find myself missing it. Sure, the Postseason™ is upon us (and my Cubs didn't quite make it), but there's something special about the regular season. I especially love #MinorLeagueBaseball because that's where I cut my teeth in the sports industry. It's also where I think creators like me can have the most fun. Below is an example of a live, interactive activation tied into a promotional night at the ballpark, specifically Video Game Knight for the Charlotte Knights in 2017. I just love video games and video game lore. That year, my friend Jon Cofer and the Pittsburgh Pirates began a new trend: turning their right field LED display into an interactive gaming area for live contests. Super Mario Run™ in Pittsburgh inspired the same in Frisco with the RoughRiders and inspired The Legend of Zelda™ (Homer) in Charlotte. I overlayed the view from the team's primary LED display in left-center field so you can see all the elements combined into one presentation. Hands down, this is one of my favorite activations for any corporate partner in my 16+ years in sports. Lots of moving parts go into elements like this (Photoshop, After Effects), but fans and partners alike appreciate the effort. ....Again, sorry (not sorry) to the umpires and coaches that night who couldn't get the players to stop staring at the right field wall instead of preparing for the next inning. 😅 Interested in executing something similar at your ballpark, arena or stadium? Winter Pre-Season As we approach the last lap of our season, with Richmond & Kew Women’s team at the summit of the GLWFL Prem. We look to capitalise on our last 4 games. Having only played 3 games in the last 7 weeks, that gave the coaching team an opportunity to strengthen our area’s of improvement in detail. - How we create in the finishing phase, specifically creating chances from the wide space (Zones 13, 15, 16 & 18). - How we defend in transition (our rest defence). - Our shape out of possession through different phases of play. - Defending set pieces and our roles in transition from set pieces. 4 games to go and still building.

Combat sports does amazing things in terms of marketing and event revenue. One of the few things combat sports does NOT do well is breakout creative. Trailers are generally formulaic and serious. Set up up face vs heel, hero vs villain, rematch, trilogy, etc. Rarely are they this creative and conceptual and funny. Oh, and inspired synch as well. Not the expected Hip Hop or heavy music male singer track. Kudos. #sports #marketing #combatsports. #creative.
