“I have no business doing a running commercial”. When I heard Jeremy Renner's opening line to a Brooks Running commercial, it resonated with me. As a Brooks runner myself, I can relate to his sentiment. Like him, I’m also not a world-class athlete. But when I started running, like Renner, I wore Brooks. I don’t know about the Marvel Comics actor, but my local running store recommended I go with this brand – and that’s what I’ve stayed with since 2013. I’ve worn Brooks through good runs, bad runs, countless training runs, two marathons and more than 20 half-marathons all over the U.S. and one in Canada. It’s carried me through trails, neighborhood streets, rural roads, and busy downtowns. For me, Brooks is a symbol of my perserverance and growth. And while it’s normal for shoe brands to use professional athletes to represent them – Boston Marathon winner Des Linden being one of the more prominent ones – turning to Renner was an unexpected but brilliant move. Renner was in a snowplowing accident in 2023 that resulted in 38 broken bones, and was told by doctors he might not walk again. The journey of his recovery and how Brooks played a small part in it is inspiring. Renner's story and my own experience with Brooks made me reflect on the power of running to help us overcome challenges and achieve our goals, no matter our starting point. What's your running story? How has it shaped your journey through life? https://lnkd.in/gf2bHZQQ (Thanks to Dr. John Page for the brand post suggestion). #RunningStory #RunningJourney #RunningInspiration #OvercomingChallenges #PersonalGrowth #RunningCommunity

Me and the fam came out earlier this morning to Take Space - Celebrating the Miracle of Enduring Black Joy. It was an event to recognize the importance of the Black community having the ability to be involved in sports that haven’t always been an inviting space for Black folk; in understanding that we as Black and brown people belong wherever we choose to be, which is everywhere! For me, growing up as a Mexican kid in Southeast SD, marathon and tri was completely unkown to me. It was all about the major sports. So when I started doing endurance sports almost 15 years ago, I would often feel like I was the only brown person rolling up to races. While the SD endurance sports landscape has become more diversified over the years, the lack of diversity with something as simple as running becomes more apparent when traveling to other cities. Props to gen Z because they stand fearless in doing things that aren't typically things that we as Black and Brown people traditionally do. So I’m hopeful at what their future holds within endurance sports. Whether they learned that from our peers that we might’ve seen as different or weird growing up or because of a more welcoming environment in their own lives, it’s something that we can glean from them in getting our fellow gen X and older Millenial peers to understand that we can stretch beyond the norms that were shown to us as kids and that it’s not too late to take better control of our health and wellness and try something different. Events like today are great in seeing all of these dope ambassadors for running and health come together and realize that we’re making an impact in our own families and communities - taking the stigma away and showing the wider world that we belong. Because while running races and earning some bling is cool and all, at the end of the day, it’s all about being healthy enough to think about tackling these challenges regardless of the distance; regardless of the speed. #kickpush #EnduranceFitnessPerformance #runcoach #tricoach #ultracoach #fitnesscoach #marathoncoach #runningfordiversity #RADrabbit #teamnuun #teamzoot #runningcommunity #SDrunners #BlackHistoryisAmericanHistory #allyship

Mattel EMEA's #Barbie has long been a symbol of boundless possibilities, sparking inspiration in individuals of all ages to envision a future without limits. Since 1959, Barbie has encouraged dreamers to seize every opportunity that comes their way through her many roles and iterations. Despite Barbie's huge portfolio of diverse jobs and hobbies, there is a disconnect with young people known as The Dream Gap. This is a phenomenon where young girls begin to question their potential based on gender, usually between the ages of 5 and 8. They stop believing that they can do and be anything they set their mind to and cease to see themselves in jobs that just a year before they had their heart set on. For example, a group of 6 year olds were asked to draw what people in certain jobs looked like. In almost every scenario they showed their drawings to be mirroring themselves, i.e. girls drew girl doctors and boys drew boy teachers. Once they hit 7 years old, the girls stopped seeing themselves in those roles and started drawing male doctors - the boys still saw themselves in any role. It's time to #CloseTheDreamGap Watch the video here: https://buff.ly/3vMLhBw

Our 10th Anniversary celebration continues! To commemorate our decade-long journey, we've compiled a list of our Top 10 Lessons from 10 Years in Business. Let’s talk about talent. Lesson 9️⃣ : Talent Isn’t Enough. Talent is undeniably valuable, especially in a creative industry. It can open doors, attract clients, and set an agency apart from its competitors. There’s no question that it elevates our work; each and every Camper brings loads of it to our team across different disciplines. Yet we know it’s not enough to get us where we want to go. There is a great Under Armour ad that aired in the lead up to the 2016 Summer Olympics. It’s a Michael Phelps training compilation; a 90-second montage of him lifting weights, eating thousands of calories, using a resistance parachute, et al. Throughout, we keep coming back to a shot of Phelps swimming, alone, in a darkened pool that goes on forever. He’s still swimming as the shot fades out and a line comes up that reads, “It’s what you do in the dark that puts you in the light.” https://lnkd.in/e5ZZpgv The training regimen was unsurprising. Phelps had already garnered 18 gold medals by the time he was headed to Rio; the importance of leveraging his physical advantages and putting in the work to prepare his body obvious. What made the ad resonate was the endless pool. Pushing himself beyond the limits of his talent, swimming against himself. Mental fatigue and the wrong mindset were the real threats to his success. So much advertising is done in the pursuit of medals (we can talk about award shows another time) and, when that is the measure, talent often carries the day. But when the rewards you seek are sustainable growth and long-term success? There’s not really a finish line. Talent gets you off the starting block, but then the pool just keeps going. The battle becomes internalized. And you need resilience, determination, and adaptability to keep you swimming along through the darkness, toward the light.
It’s what you do in the dark that puts you in the light. UNDER ARMOUR RULE YOURSELF MICHAEL PHELPS
