Not everything is a fight. Law school does a great job of showing you the competitive side of lawyering. Things like mock trials, class ranking, and classroom debates reflect the realities that you are learning how to make compelling arguments on behalf of your future clients. But do not forget that there is a collaborative side of the law. Whether it's your future colleagues, referral partners, clients - and yes, sometimes even with opposing counsel - you will find yourself in situations where your ability to work together with someone is just as important as defeating someone in an argument. Teamwork makes the dream work.

The best sign of personal growth in law school is reaching the point where you think beyond yourself and want everyone else to succeed. Publicly give props to your fellow students, especially those blazing in front of you and those gaining momentum behind you. Share the limelight you’ve garnered from your own success. Be the go-to networking machine, connecting others who are thriving, just like you. Ultimately, other people winning doesn’t take away from your empire of success. It elevates your ecosystem of greatness! Go get ‘em, law students! #lawschool #lawstudents #lawstudent

Law students, You're missing out if you want to do litigation but never explore a career at a "boutique." I think they're best deal out there if you want to do litigation. At a boutique, you can often get early experience, autonomy, and better pay. Also, boutiques usually have fewer lawyers and some focus to their practice. They pride themselves on doing a few things exceptionally well, and do not try to do everything. So how do you find them? You network! > Ask other law students what they know. > Ask attorneys about their practice and their firm. > And make time to go to networking events. Indeed, a bunch of future trial lawyers from The University of Texas School of Law did just that last night, attending McKool Smith's 1L mixer here in Austin. It was a great event. And everyone who I met got to hear all about why I—and my incredible colleagues—chose to go the boutique route after law school. So do yourself a favor: If you want to do litigation after law school, don't miss out on boutiques. They can be amazing. Best, —Kyle

Connecting with UCD Law's Esteemed Community: An enlightening evening of networking, legal discourse, and market insights at Capital Reception. As an international lawyer and current LLM student, it was a valuable opportunity to engage with attorneys, discuss politics, law, and explore future collaboration prospects. Such events reinforce the importance of self-marketing. As I always emphasize, you are the product, and effective self-promotion is key to achieving success. 🌐⚖️ #UCDLaw #ProfessionalNetworking #SelfMarketing University of California, Davis - School of Law

We’re dedicated to nurturing the next generation of legal professionals. 🚀 Last month, members of our Guildford team – Nina Paul and Rachael Stephen and Emily Wood – spoke to The University of Law undergraduate LLB law students, LPC and SQE about their pathways into law. 🗺️ “It was great to speak with the students and offer advice as they embark on their journeys into law. Our routes to qualification have varied, so we provided more information about our experiences, which the students found insightful.” Nina Paul, Paralegal at K J Smith #KJSFamilyLaw #KJSmith #FamilyLaw #LegalCareers

When someone asks me about my job as a lawyer, I say "I don't have a job, I own a business". I started my solo law practice right out of law school and have been jobless for 42 years now. I'd summarize how it's been as follows: "I made a nice living, I helped a lot of people, I have good stories." I'll also add that I went to EVERY family or school event that I wanted to and had a few law biz ideas that I took from concept to reality, which is most gratifying. For any lawyers or law students who are wondering, starting your own practice IS a viable option, more so now than ever! Opportunities abound - when we choose to look. #law #lawschool #lawyer #lawpractice There are many paths one can follow.... https://lnkd.in/exPUHxd

Law students, I know you hear so much about networking in this field and it's all true, it's very important. It is also important to network among your classmates, who within a few years will be practitioners in the field. I get it, law school is a competitive environment but don't let the competitive nature of the place rob you of genuine and oftentimes life long connections. #lawstudents #lawschool #networking
