The next big hiring trend in the music industry is going to be hiring people making a career change! I remember when nobody wanted to hire the “fan girl” when I first got started in this business. Now it’s definitely a type of person that all the major label HR teams are seeking out! I’m going to keep talking about it because I want it to be a trend, and think it would be great for the business. What else do you think is going to be a hiring trend in the music business? Or a trend that you would like to see happen? #musicindustry #musicbusiness
Cassie - I love that we have that in common! 💖 I saw Something Corporate perform on Friday night and I was able to tell Andrew McMahon that he’s literally the reason that I have a career in marketing. I was the number one street teamer for Jack’s Mannequin, which led to my first internship, at Warner Bros. Records, where we met, which led to my first job as a Field Marketing Rep for the company in Austin, Texas, which led to a million other opportunities! Fan girls understand how to reach consumers, from an ultimate fan mindset of what they would not would not want to see from their favorite brand/band/talent, and create community. It’s a super power and strength as a marketer!
I hope a music label or entertainment company will recognize the value of my music translations in marketing and hire me. While studying music business management, I can't stop writing songs and creating rhythmic translations because it's my passion. Thank you for your post. I believe that one day, I will find the right opportunity. ✨
As a professional musician turned corporate marketer and now turned music-marketer…I would love to see this trend take hold!
I landed my first internship by telling the recruiter how much I loved a certain band and how involved I was with a fanclub online. Now that the industry is leaning heavily on building community and fan service this will for sure become common practice. No one better than superfans to know exactly what their fellow "stans" need.
A trend I would like to see is hiring remote workers instead of making folks move to a major city, where they usually can't afford to live at the rate of pay they're being offered.
Hiring musicians would be nice…
This is a great take, Cassie Petrey, I'd love to see this trend!
I love this! This is definitely the category I fit into. Definitely hoping this is the case. Thank you for sharing!

3wI hope this is correct!!! I'm pursuing my music education a little later in life than most hoping to pivot into the business. I have 26 years of sales and business experience that I'm combining with my course work at AIMM and a lifetime of gigging in hopes of finding my way at 48. I'm not afraid to take entry level to get where I'm trying to go. Whatever it takes!
