Happy Health Care Week! This week we’re celebrating our team members - from clinical to non-clinical, each individual plays a vital role in the care we provide to our patients and community. Meet Chuck Mungin, events coordinator, who has been with Baptist Health for almost 40 years! Q. Why did you decide to work in health care? A. A friend recommended me - it was a great opportunity to grow and also offered great benefits. Q. What do your day-to-day responsibilities usually look like? A. I handle setting up for different meetings and special events around campus. Q. What about your work makes you most proud? A. Taking care of my customers' (and colleagues') needs. Q. What do you like most about working at Baptist Health? A. The department leadership and senior leadership, and the opportunity to use my potential as a step to grow. Q. What do you like to do outside of work? A. Fishing, attending church and spending time with family, friends and relatives. #BaptistProud

It's rare I watch or listen to a podcast and am inspired. Wow! I had the true privilege and honor to be in a room last evening with an amazing group of Vanderbilt University Medical Center physicians. The physician council meets on a monthly basis and this month we had a holiday reception. They each shared a story about a proud moment they have had in their career as a doctor. The stories were truly amazing and I think reconnected us all on the difference made in the very noble profession of medicine. What did I walk away with? 1) The practice of medicine is not always about doing something but sometimes about just being there, with and for another person. 2) There are a lot of up's and down's in caring for others but it can be the middle ground where you see the differences. 3) It starts with caring and as long as one cares the what and how will follow. 4) Lives have been saved based on taking risks and chances. People who probably should not have walked out of the hospital did because of the skill and compassion shown by health care professionals. 5) Don't give up. Heard numerous stories of adversity and individuals not wanting to engage or give up and because of the empathy shown by a doctor they engaged, were helped, and are now advocates for others stricken with their conditions to get help. An amazing group of humans. I finished by sharing that they shared 20 stories of lives forever changed, including their own, but the ripples are so much larger. There are countless families celebrating this holiday season with a loved one because of the amazing skill and care provided by all the professionals in the Health Care Industry. Did your hospital make the list of best hospitals to work for state by state? "Forbes' fifth annual list of America's Best Employers By State contains a number of health systems and acute-care hospitals, with more than a dozen recognized in Illinois, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania." Based on a survey. The list for Pennsylvania includes 13 hospitals. But none of our locals made it. The article lists the evaluation criteria for ranking. Congrats to those that made it and also to those that did not. Sometimes we give credit also for effort and not only for the outcomes. Depending. And maintaining or advancing their ranks in the system requires hard work. Now press releases will feature this ranking. like "best Hospital to work for...." #HealthyAging is a movement giving rise to health fairs put on by seniors' centres. An example is shown below. Across Ontario, there would be several of these exhibitions each week serving the Healthy Aging Movement. Dental care has yet to connect with these health fairs. Most seniors consider dental care as an expensive service only to be used when in pain. But no longer. A #Prevora booth makes perfect sense for seniors' health fairs. This new preventive treatment can be demonstrated at the fair, and has the right features for seniors -- it is painless, quick and affordable, and available from a local independent hygienist (who promotes her/his practice by manning the booth). An aging community obviously wants different, more suitable healthcare services. Prevora is rated by seniors as "very important" and "very beneficial for general health."
