When doing angel investing, there are three core activities: sourcing (finding startups), picking (making investment decisions) and winning (supporting the founders to grow, raising the next rounds and exiting). Business angels often focus only on the first two activities, not putting enough energy into the (essential) winning part. Valuations are a false, precise concept. Valuations are actually what people are prepared to pay. It could be zero if no one wants it. It can be anything if people really want it. I don’t think there is a precise science at any given point in time. You just need to take it as it is. As investors, a lot of what we do relies on term sheets and valuations. But there's no huge science behind it.
