As an interior designer passionate about historic preservation, I'm thrilled to share the fascinating story of Woodward Lofts in St. Louis. This stunning example of adaptive reuse breathes new life into the former Woodward & Tiernan Printing Company, once a titan of the city's printing industry. Originally built in 1925, the Klipstein & Rathmann-designed factory boasts soaring ceilings, dramatic windows, and a unique rail spur for efficient deliveries. Now, these very elements define the character of 164 stunning loft-style apartments. The design pays homage to the building's heritage. Exposed steel trusses, timber decking, and board-formed concrete walls speak volumes about the structure's industrial past. Material selections and graphics subtly reference the printing process, while original office partitions find new life in semi-public areas. Even the rooftop lounge gets in on the act! Seating areas fashioned from repurposed water tanks are a clever nod to the building's past, offering residents a stunning 360-degree view and a sparkling pool. Woodward Lofts isn't just a place to live; it's a tangible connection to St. Louis' rich history. This project exemplifies how thoughtful design can blend the past and present seamlessly, creating a vibrant and character-filled living space. #historicpreservation #interiordesign #adaptivereuse #stlouis #loftliving Trivers
