What an honor to be in the company of our amazing 2024-2025 Career Success Faculty Fellows representing all academic disciplines and The City University of New York campuses. Thanks to Senior Advisor for Transformation and Distinguished Professor Cathy N. Davidson, Chief Transformation Officer Rachel Stephenson, and University Associate Provost Lauren Andersen for their leadership on this program. Our Fellows have pioneered effective methods of helping students understand the relationship between classroom learning and careers that can be adapted to every field. The program has two major goals: (1) Embedding more career-relevant information into courses through five high-impact areas (syllabus and curriculum revision, student support, work-based learning, employer engagement, continuous improvement & utilization of data); and, (2) Identifying faculty leaders on their home campuses that can introduce their colleagues to similar enhancements in their courses. I am delighted to share that an article that I co-authored with John Braxton, Dawn Lyken-Segosebe, and Christine Harrington was recently published by the Journal of Higher Education Management. It's entitled "Clarity or Continuing Ambiguity Regarding the Tenure and Promotion Process in Community Colleges." Last week I completed the IRTS Foundation summer 2023 fellowship. For two months we had the privilege of talking with over 50+ agencies and brands in the entertainment and media industry. We got to speak with current leaders in these spaces and learn about the future of the industry. And of course I got to make 40 life long friends. to all of you I am proud and excited to see where you will take these amazing leadership skills and knowledge we have gained. You guys have me no matter what I got to learn so much from everyone different perspective and that is the beauty of diverse environments. I look forward to our futures. A few things I learned this past summer; 1. You have nothing to prove only to share. 2. This industry is changing fast, but it always has, so embracing innovative ways to better the industry is vital for growth and success. 3. Always be curious. 4. Ask questions wherever you go, asking questions is vital to understanding different perspectives. 5. DEI is a driver for me and if this industry wants to succeed in the incoming years we need to be the faces in those rooms. All perspectives matter and deserve a seat at the table . Overall, this has been a life changing experience I feel well prepared to come into the workforce after I finish my last year University of Florida. If the future of this industry is us then I know we have the right tools and people to succeed.

However, when done the right way, in an open and honest manner, it affirms everything for which the college or university stands. Advancement can truly be a vehicle for moving the mission of the institution forward…No matter how campaigns are conceived, sized,, implemented, leadership is critical to success. Increasingly, that leadership comes from the president and casts him or her in the role of ‘Fund-raiser-in-Chief.’..No other institutional officer can create the vision, establish university-wide priorities, or make the case for support as effectively as the president.”
