There's one question we get asked about our company often: How do you pronounce "Jabil"?
Is it JAH-bul? Juh-BEEL? Jay-BILL? They're all close, but not quite...
Jabil (that's Jay-Bull) comes from our founders, James Golden and Bill Morean. They combined their first names to give our company its unforgettable and unique name.

I was fortunate enough to be a guest of the US Chamber of Commerce last week for Mary Barra’s fireside chat hosted by the Economic Club of Washington DC. As a leader in our industry, when Ms. Barra has something to say, people listen, and when she does, it will very often make news.
That was the case last week. Here are some highlights:
Labor:
· Recent labor agreements will lead to an average of 500 to 575 additional dollars in cost per vehicle sold
· The company will look towards driving efficiency in other areas to limit the impact of these costs
· She noted that other non-union OEMs in right-to-work states were also increasing wages which would lessen the competitive impact
Supply Chain:
· The microchip shortage issue is largely over
· GM has designed a strategy to limit themselves to three families of semiconductors which will have sub-products within them
· This will be implemented in 2026, and will help reduce supply risk and drive efficiency
Return to Europe:
· After divesting Opel as part of the financial crisis, Barra indicated that GM will return to Europe in a limited way, most likely with EVs and/or premium products like the Escalade and Corvette
Competition:
· She emphasized the importance of domestic manufacturing in a number of areas including, jobs, research and development, innovation, supply chain diversity, and national security
· She noted there were 100 domestic EV manufacturers in China
ZEV:
· She acknowledged manufacturing issues prevented the company from producing as many EVs as they had wanted in 2023
· Any government mandates must be attainable and supported by customer demand as well as charging infrastructure
· She expects all vehicles to zero emission within 25 years
AV:
· Any issues with AV's aren't so much technological, but rather regulatory
· She admitted that GM’s AV division could have worked more closely with regulators and in a more transparent manner earlier this year
· Level 4 autonomy is likely within the next 10 years
· Autonomy has the potential to reignite the original promise of personal vehicles—namely, freedom
GM:
· Views General Motors as a vehicle manufacturing but also a vehicle software company
· She recognizes the auto industry is very much in the “fashion business”
