Air Canada has become the first North American airline to sign up for the Airbus carbon removal initiative, with removal credits supplied by 1PointFive using CE’s Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. The announcement illustrates the role that DAC can play in airlines’ decarbonization portfolios, alongside emissions reductions such as sustainable aviation fuel, to help the industry achieve net zero emissions. Airlines across three continents have now embraced carbon dioxide removal backed by CE’s DAC technology to address residual emissions. We applaud Air Canada’s continued support of DAC, from their investment in the advancement of CE's DAC technology alongside Airbus in 2022, and now by participating in Airbus’ carbon capture offering. ✈️ Air Canada Takes Flight Towards Carbon Neutrality with Airbus 🌍 Exciting news! Air Canada has joined forces with Airbus to slash carbon emissions from its flights. Through Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) technology, they're actively removing carbon from the air. Airbus is set to provide carbon removal credits to Air Canada from 2026 to 2029, marking a significant step in the airline's environmental commitment. This partnership aligns with Air Canada's broader sustainability initiatives, incorporating sustainable aviation fuel and collaborations with organizations to offset carbon emissions. The ultimate aim? Achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Kudos to Air Canada and Airbus for soaring towards a greener future! 🌱✨ https://lnkd.in/gP2X_-78 #SustainabilityPartnership #CarbonNeutralAviation #AirCanada #SAF #AirbusInnovation #SustainableAviationFuels

👏 ACI applauds and supports visionary International Civil Aviation Organization goal for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) 📱 READ THE NEWS: https://bit.ly/3GoMalf ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira said: “ACI applauds and supports the visionary ICAO goal for 5% carbon intensity reduction by 2030 – it will be crucial to delivering the ICAO Long Term Aspirational Goal of net zero carbon emission by 2050. ACI was present and engaged at ICAO CAAF/3, advocating on behalf of airports for this goal – this is a prime example of how regulators and industry can work together. We look forward to continuing to foster consensus across regulators and industry at the upcoming COP28." #SAF #SustainableAviation #NetZero Michael Rossell, Jennifer Desharnais, Dr. Alicja Gajewska Airports Council International - ACI Africa Airports Council International - ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East ACI EUROPE Airports Council International - Latin America and Caribbean - ACI LAC Airports Council International - North America

One of the main strategies for the aviation industry to reach its long-term decarbonization targets is the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SAF can significantly lower the lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from air travel, up to 80% less than conventional jet fuel. Therefore, SAF is a crucial factor in achieving the aviation industry’s ambition of halving its net CO₂ emissions by 2050. easyJet has signed a contract with Airbus for its carbon removal initiative, making the low-fare carrier the first airline to sign up. Under the agreement, Airbus will use its Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) to offer airlines worldwide carbon removal credits. Through DACCS technology, CO2 emissions are filtered and removed from the air with high-powered extraction fans before being permanently stored in underground reservoirs. As DACCS cannot prevent CO2 emissions from flight from occurring, the technology acts as complementary to the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to minimise emissions. A report by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to compare leading decarbonisation roadmaps for the #aviation sector has found significant differences regarding how technologies and solutions may evolve in the transition to net zero, reports Christopher Surgenor for GreenAir News. Although all roadmaps assume sustainable aviation fuels will be responsible for the greatest amount of CO2 reductions by 2050, their role varies from 24% to 70%. This, says the report, reflects the uncertainties regarding potential supportive government action, the level of investments, cost of production and profit potential, as well as access to feedstocks. This first analysis undertaken to provide a holistic review of 14 major global and regional net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 roadmaps was undertaken by IATA in collaboration with the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), the Mission Possible Partnership and the Air Transportation Systems Laboratory at University College London. #sustainableaviation #aviationnetzero https://lnkd.in/e9t7mcFF

👉 The Future is now! 👨🚀 In the words of Neil Amstrong “That's one small step for man. One giant leap for mankind.” ✈ SAF is seen as a way of helping the airline industry – responsible for 2% of global energy-related CO₂ emissions last year – meet its net zero ambitions. (International Energy Agency) 🏋♀️ Prior to #hydrogen as a aircraft fuel, prior of #batterystorage capacity to regional and bigger aircraft it is paramount that we define and develop the #SAF production because that is the real chance to mitigate carbon emissions at larger scale. 💡 Proud to participate in this chaging times by investing into a better future world! #airbp #netzero2050 #saf https://lnkd.in/divVaQsf

The share of #aviation in the world’s energy-related #CO2emissions stood at 2% in 2022. Despite this comparatively small share, aviation is considered hard to abate due to aircraft having a long lifespan – typically up to 30 years – but also because sustainable aviation fuel (#SAF), seen as key in helping decarbonise aviation, remains expensive and in short supply. easyJet is the world’s first airline to sign a contract with Airbus for its carbon-removal initiative, which uses Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) to offer airlines worldwide carbon removal credits to advance their decarbonization goals. Although CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere during aircraft operations cannot be directly eliminated at source, DACCS can extract an equivalent amount from the air using high-powered extraction fans. This CO2 is then stored safely and permanently in underground reservoirs. https://lnkd.in/g6PY9NVA
