In the first quarter of 2024, with federal cannabis-reform efforts not yielding any practical changes, Curaleaf made a strategic decision to enter the hemp market. This is a trend we are starting to see. Cannabis can only be sold in the state it was produced and only allowed to be sold through dispensaries (in a hand full of states such as #california it could be sold through a delivery service). Intoxicating products that derived from hemp, are legal to ship across state lines, are available via e-commerce and mainstream retail channels. As well the producers of the products do not need to comply with burdensome licensing requirement and predatory taxation. A lot of politicians say that they support small businesses, but for small cannabis businesses to be able to properly compete, they need to have access to the same distribution channels as #hemp. Thank you Chris Roberts from MJBiz for the market update. #cannabisindustry #cannabiscommunity #cannabisnews #cannabiseducation #cannabispolicy #cannbislaw https://lnkd.in/gJHjPYgG

This is an opinion piece, like almost every other post on here regarding cannabis “marijuana” and cannabis “hemp”. IMO, state run marijuana programs used DEA pricing, based on thc%, to determine what the licensed industry would be charging and earning from each sale. That’s where you get the billion and trillion dollar evaluations of the national and international marijuana industry’s. My question, based on the opinion that states are using over inflated prices, that the DEA created evaluating confiscated product, and its thc%.. If cultivators, manufacturers, and retailers stopped using DEA pricing based on THC%.. How much would state tax income predictions fall? How much would national tax income predictions fall? Is this something the state and feds are expecting will eventually happen? I’ve seen a lot of retailer prices, and I can say I have not seen a single one that deviates from using the DEA’s over inflated thc% based pricing on their shelves. I don’t know of a single one of you that would change those prices to reflect actual cultivation and manufacturing based pricing. You all love that street DEAler pricing they got going on and it’s what’s feeding the monsters you hate, or love to hate? Why are you charging $50+ per 3.5 grams of weed? Why are you charging over $35 for 3.5 grams of weed? Who gave you those prices? Where did you learn them? Who’s lead are you following when you set your prices? You came up with those prices yourself? Really? It’s based on actual cogs? Really? 90% (I’m being nice and actually think 99%) of weed that’s being sold in retail stores, will never be valued at $50 for 3.5 grams, ever, so where did you get those numbers from, huh?

“Every sale of THC beverages outside dispensaries robs the state’s cannabis tax fund roughly $6.08,” Caren Woodson, president of the California Cannabis Industry Association. This quote is entirely uninformed and sensationalist. Tax on zero sales is zero, nobody wants to buy low dose beverages in dispensaries and dispensaries don’t want our drinks! The dispensary ecosystem is not built for beverage. Also why do you think people are leaving your hyper taxed weed alone? Could it be you expect to take an extra 6 dollars from your constituents? America is built on finding better ways to do business, do not penalize our industry for leaving a bad relationship. If your market is worthy of THC drinks… improve yourself instead of running to lawmakers to crush us, California Cannabis Industry Association. https://lnkd.in/g2CUAMA7

The Legal BD Guy. Connecting business owners with the right attorneys. "I rescue business owners who are working with the wrong attorney."
The Maryland Cannabis Administration wants to create a license for a new type of business that would sell cannabis plants and seeds — a move that could close one of the largest loopholes in the nascent industry. House Bill 253 would allow for the creation of a business called a “cannabis nursery” that will sell seeds, immature plants, and clones of cannabis plants to other firms under the regulatory oversight of the MCA. The bill may be intended to fix one of the biggest legal gray areas in the industry — how growers get the seeds they need to start their business. When the cannabis industry launched, businesses did not have a legal way to get the cannabis seeds or immature plants necessary to grow the drug. The plant is still federally illegal so business owners cannot import immature plants across state lines. https://lnkd.in/gZnMMxEw

Something I think people often forget is that the cannabis industry is really more like 41 different and unique markets. It's something that makes the cannabis industry uniquly difficult to navigate. Each State has different regulations, licensing, taxes, zoning, etc when it comes to the cannabis industry. It really creates especially unique challenges for those cultivating, because you're not getting any of those federal subsidies, nor are you able to rely on exchanges to sell your cannabis unlike selling other crops or agricultural products. It can be a lot, so it's important to remember to keep your strategy in mind from conception through execution, otherwise you're going to lose out to those that are doing so.

CT Cannabis Legislative Update: Both bills regarding changes to the cannabis statute and regulations have passed in the House and are headed to the Senate for a vote. The bill may change yet again following review by CT Senators. The bills are significant because they would: - Further limit the allowable THC content in CBD/Hemp products that can be sold without a cannabis license, and thereby limit the retail locations where such products can be sold (e.g., health food stores, farmers' markets, and convenience stores) - Create new product categories of Moderate-THC Hemp products and Infused Beverages, with limits on where those products can be sold. Notably, Infused Beverages may be sold in state-registered package stores, but not in convenience stores or other retail locations. - Allow social equity partners who are backers of Section 149 cultivation licenses to have an ownership interest in both EJVs sponsored by the cultivation entity. - Allow approved Section 149 cultivators to convert to micro-cultivators for a reduced fee - Limit the ability of cannabis retailers to offer product discounts as an inducement to buy cannabis - Permit storage of cannabis in Schedule III cages, making cannabis storage more affordable than under the current vault requirements Stay tuned for updates as these important bills are considered by the Senate this week! #CannaBizCT #ShipmanCannabisTeam #CannabisLaw https://lnkd.in/euMNEUEF.
