Here are the things I captured from Microsoft's Global Nonprofit Leaders Conference.

This is an incredibly powerful keynote from AWS' 2024 Imagine nonprofit conference. Allyson Fryhoff was very inspiring in her keynote. Great job! The conference highlighted the transformative impact of AWS cloud technology and human generosity in advancing non-profit missions. AWS is enabling these groups to address a wide range of missions, from environmental conservation to healthcare. If you are looking for inspiration, check it out! Some highlights for me:   The Rainforest Connection is using AWS AI to protect rainforests by monitoring and analyzing sounds for illegal logging activities. Love how they are using the power of technology in their efforts to conserve biodiversity and combat climate change. Michael Hund: "If your goals don't scare you, those goals are not big enough."   Jill Biden talked about the impact that can be made in women's health, which has been historically underfunded.   Chris Anderson (TED founder) talked about infectious generosity. This was an engaging and informative session about nonprofit jobs, re-skillling and trends related to the impact of AI at work. Hats off to Meg Garlinghouse interviewing style and Karin Kimbrough explaining the economic data in a very understandable way. Takeways …. Will the robots eat nonprofit jobs and should we all be worried? Data says … 12% of nonprofit job tasks will be augmented or change 39% of nonprofit job tasks disrupted Disrupted does not mean the job will be eliminated but it means that the job might shift to different tasks and require using or learning different skills (and that would need some re-skilling) For example, a fundraiser whose job is “disrupted,” may save a lot of time on desk prospect research and have more time to take donors out to lunch or cultivate. The faster growing job titles for nonprofits are: CIO, CTO, Director of Tech Also needed will be more board members who can think through tech and ethics. Good news is that you can find playbooks on board.dev and playbooks on LinkedIn. The most in-demand skill for nonprofits will be communication as AI is adopted. We will move to a world where we focus more on the skills than job descriptions or functions. There will be less of career ladder in one industry or function and will be able to move to other types of industries or job functions. We can all relax. AI is not eating your job, but your job will change and you will need to learn new skills. A key skill will be the ability to sustain life long learning.

A recommendation for this #monday: can we go a little deeper about #AI and its impact, especially for the #nonprofits? I am passionate about technology and its ways to reduce #inequalities. I am fascinated about how tech can create bridges, bring new and innovative ways to support communities, and help people to make their dreams come true. But there are downsides, of course! As someone from a region where access to internet is still an issue (only 13% of the population can access internet in the Brazilian Amazon region), I am always researching about people and organisations that use #techforgood. Can AI help to reduce these gaps and promote equity and not only equality? AI is a challenging subject BUT it's important that we can start a productive and thoughtful conversation about this, avoiding hearsay comments without relevant data that can help us to move forward instead of keeping us in the dark. So, let's start the week with this super interesting conversation between Meg Garlinghouse and Karin Kimbrough about how AI is impacting the labor market, especially the nonprofit sector (btw, both from LinkedIn and two powerhouse voices in the tech sector).
