We are the largest independent funder of cancer research in the world, and we are entirely funded by the generosity of the public. Our ability to handle £426m in donations and help 600+ clinical trials find patients is at the core of our ability to be sustainable and in an increasingly digital world, is an absolutely foundational piece of that puzzle. The American Cancer Society (ACS) is partnering with Gitcoin Grants Stack to raise funds for cancer 🩺 research and care. 🤝🏻 This collaboration will use #QuadraticFunding, a method of community-driven funding that allocates more funds to projects with more supporters. The ACS hopes 🙏 that this partnership will help to advance cancer research and care, and ensure that breakthroughs are accessible to everyone 💲 , regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. ➕ The non-profit organization is a grassroots that is committed to advancing public interest in cancer care and treatment. #Gitcoin Grants Stack is a platform for community-driven funding, and the ACS hopes to use it to support its direct assistance and education 🧑🎓 programs for people with cancer, caregivers, and clinicians. 🏥 The ACS QF round will support multiple programs including patient support programs, health equity, cancer screening and cancer research, aiming to bring DAO-driven grant allocation to the NGO sector. #Web3 #DAO #Grants

This holiday season, please consider helping my 18 month old son Max find a cure for the fatal Alexander Disease. Treatments are within reach and every dollar makes a huge difference towards bringing them to the children and families who are suffering. Max was diagnosed with Alexander Disease at just 7 months old, after a 30 minute long seizure. This rare and fatal neurological disorder, a spontaneous mutation affecting 1 in a million, affects the brain and spinal cord, leading to symptoms like seizures, balance and motor issues, and developmental delays. Doctors gave Max 5 years. But we are not giving up, and have connected to scientists and families around the world who are making a difference. There is currently no cure for Alexander Disease, but there is hope. Promising new treatments are emerging, some of which proved effective in other neurodegenerative diseases, but need to be tested in AxD models. Crucial experiments are only held back by a lack of funds. So Max’ amazing mom Stephanie Holzhuber and I, together with other families, are raising money to support research into life-changing treatments, including at the Alexander Disease Lab at the University of Wisconsin, Harvard Medical School, UMass Chan, Western Sydney University and others. However, with only 57 countries worldwide being able to access WMDA's knowledge and support, we believe there's much more we can do to save even more lives. The flexibility of these charities nurtures inventions, innovations and talent but their size means they cannot do this alone. We should instead test new funding models by building partnerships between them and government.... "We should create an annual 'cancer survivability fund' of £50m to start a venture-funding type approach. Government and partners will choose promising early-stage research in less survivable cancers and investment will accelerate results." Cancer will cost the global economy $25.2 trillion from 2020 to 2050, World Health Organisation researchers estimated, equivalent to an annual tax of 0.55% on global GDP. https://lnkd.in/eFsfqfjM In 2015, cancer death rates were about 26% lower in the US than they were in 1990. Chicago researchers estimated that a 1 percent reduction in mortality from cancer has a value to Americans of nearly $500bn. 💜 PROJECT PURPLE 💜 💜Remembering Leon💜 Shane and I want to take a moment to share something deeply personal and meaningful with you all… As we prepare for our new business's official launch on June 1st, we have decided to find a way to enfold Shane's Dad Leon into its foundation. Losing Leon to pancreatic cancer in 2021 was a devastating blow that shook us to our core. It was a harsh reminder of how precious life is and how quickly everything can change. As we embark on this next chapter with the launch of our new business and the phasing out of the business that meant so much to Leon, we want to do something special to pay tribute to the man who filled our hearts with joy on a daily basis. In the lead-up to our website’s launch on June 1st, we will be raising funds for Project Purple, an organization that provides support to pancreatic cancer patients and their families. This cause is deeply personal to us, and we can't think of a better way to honor Leon than by helping others who are facing the same battle. But our commitment doesn't end there. Once the website is up and running fully on June 1st, we will continue to support Project Purple by providing an ongoing link for donations and contributing a percentage of our annual revenue to their mission. This business launch represents more than just a new venture for us. It's an opportunity to build something meaningful together, to create a legacy that reflects our shared values and the love we have for our family. It all started with an idea- CRI Board of Trustees member Yacov Arnopolin wanted to raise money for a cause that was close to his heart, and honor his father, who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Arnopolin decided to organize an extreme fitness challenge, entailing a one-mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats, and another one-mile run – all with a weighted vest on, in under an hour. Reaching out to friends and colleagues with the details of the challenge, he also touted CRI’s commitment to putting 88 cents of every dollar donated back into research. “As someone that works in finance, I’m a little bit of a nerd. The efficiency with which CRI approaches everything is far higher than many other nonprofits,” he says. Raising over $150,000 for cancer research, Arnopolin emphasizes how his approach isn't exclusive- anyone can do it. “Getting involved really matters and it’s very fulfilling. You really get surprised when you open up about your story, and you say what you’re doing," he describes.
