I think every year should be about growth, whether personal or professional. 2023 had a lot of big wins with my promotion at Taco Bell being among my proudest moments. This company is full of great leaders and mentors, and I am forever grateful for how much they have invested in me. I also think its important to celebrate personal wins, and I refuse to let my creative side fall into the shadows. Last month, me and some of my closest friends released a 4 song EP entitled "Legacy". I know we all have different musical taste, but if anyone is interested to give a listen I will share the link below. Cheers to more growth in 2024, and please don't forget to make time to do what you love! https://lnkd.in/gnnNtfBu

This week Jonathan Groff’s Tony award acceptance speech moved me in many ways, particularly on the career front. I assumed (incorrectly) that Groff already had a Tony award to his name given his past roles, performances, and accolades. And I did not realize that we were the same age. That struck me most as I look for inspiration from others who achieve success and/or influence outside of the “wonderkid” success trope. These stories are important for those of us with career paths that include set backs, missteps, and disappointment. We need to share more of these stories for well-rounded representation of career trajectories and timelines. Groff helped me to remember valuable lessons learned through my journey: · Grind. Commit to putting in good work each day no matter how far out the goal may seem. · Grit. Hustle, passion, and perseverance are necessary to reach long-term goals. · Support. Surround yourself with people who are there in the good times and the bad times. · Acknowledgement and Appreciation. Let those people know how much they mean to you and how their presence in your life influenced you along the way. · Authenticity. Follow your passions while being your true self. Especially when it is hard. · Longevity. Keep setting new goals; never stop trying to improve and give back. Here’s Groff’s speech: https://lnkd.in/eEcD5bmv

Educator and Public Speaker | Teaching and inspiring leaders to engage “followership” so their teams can find alignment and achieve success.
🎷 New Orleans - a city bursting with creativity and musical talent. You find yourself walking up and down Frenchmen Street enjoying the never-ending music as it flows over you. And you realize that the music is the epitome of teamwork, leadership, and followership. My friend Jack Reichert had just such an experience. He wrote a true tour-de-force post that brings the music of the city to life that explores how jazz performers—a smooth fusion of artists—create beautiful harmony from their individual strengths. He breaks down the synergy in a jazz team, reflecting a masterclass in effective teamwork. He puts a spotlight on the essential role of both generalists and specialists on any team. Their magic? Harmonizing their skills to tasks, just like a well-rehearsed jazz band. And the result? Joyful problem-solving and the sweet, sweet sound of harmony mixed with individualism. Leadership is about knowing these strengths and letting each player have their moment. Followership is about stepping up into the limelight when it is your time, but also playing backup and knowing how to support the other players when it is their turn to shine. So, let's strike up the band and make our teams sing the same sweet song of success! Hit the link in the comments and immerse yourself in the rhythm of Jack's insight! #BeCourageous - Make your teams jazz! 🎷🎸🥁🎺🎶🎹

I was in the band when I was in school and love playing alto sax. When I was a senior, I became first chair for the saxophone section so this meant I was an extension of the band director and the drum major, to ensure that our section knew their music. You know, played into knowing their, their marching patterns, etc. Have you ever considered the same for your organization? Imagine a band that's playing off tune. Some people are off beat, some people are not marching in a straight line, or keeping up with the pace. When you watch the show on the field, it's a mess. They look a mess, even though they have on their matching uniforms. Well, the same idea can apply to your organization. Right? It can be overwhelming when you begin to address the problems your organization is experiencing but clarity is the way to see this through. And when you have clarity, the beautiful music, beautiful marching patterns, organization, engagement, focus, and discipline, then that will lead you to identify the gaps for where you may need to show up for support. There holds your goal as a leader, to make sure that you reflect the values and the principles that guide the behaviors of your organization so your playbook will be successful. #leadershipdevelopmentcoaching #leadershipcoach #leadershipskills #thoughtleader #supplychaincoach #businesscoachesforwomen #blackbusinesscoach #womeninstem #blackwomenleaders

We all want to be seen but do everything we can to hide. * Wise words from my friend, Patty. She said it to me a recently; I can’t remember the context but I remember the words because they are true. We dance salsa, mambo actually - it’s a more technical form, didn’t you know. And we went to a salsa night together a few nights ago. We are in Guadalajara. Big event. Lots of dancers. The music was a dancer’s dream. But getting on the dance floor was not. We knew no-one; and everyone else seemed to know everyone else. But that wasn’t new to us. The beauty of this scene is you can go to a salsa event, anywhere in the world, and as long as you know how to dance, you can dance. You’ve just got to get onto the dance floor; so people can see that you can dance. And then - you’re off. But that night, getting on to the dance floor was not easy. Too many people that knew too many other people. We’d have to do the asking. And somehow, that night, the barriers, - maybe they won’t want to - maybe it’s not the done thing - maybe they won’t like it - maybe we won’t like it - the music’s too fast were too loud. And so, we stayed on the sidelines. Inched further and further back. Watching. And it was fine, because hey, we were in Mexico and it was nice to watch others dancing and enjoying, noticing what was different. But of course, our heart’s desire was not to watch but to Dance. And yet. We hid. * We play things down. We wait to be asked. We say we can’t. Or that we aren’t fussed anyway. But opportunity dances with those who are already on the dance floor. We must step out. And show ourselves. On the floors our heart’s desire. Where would you like to step out? #founders #smallbusiness #growth #people

Later today I am going to play music again with my new "band". Funny how this thing unfolded.... A jam...turned into a "hey man let's play a gig".....and now we are rehearsing again a few days later and about to book a show in July. So interesting for me to be in the mix and leading in a way that is completely different and more effective than my old self in the band days. Releasing my perfectionism. Letting the players find their way into the songs without me "saving them time" and telling them what to play. Being truly open minded to other's ideas and really meaning it. In my old band pictured below I wasn't a good leader or collaborator. That band was Five Star Iris. That realization was the genesis for what has become Banding People Together. Proud of how we help ease the pain to help people go faster in a way that feels good to them. I'm digging the idea of actually "leading" us to the desired result of a higher level of performance. Imagine that? #leadership #teambuilding #awareness #personaldevelopment

Today's sunrise (3.00am) greeted me with a twist; I begin my Sunday not as a mentor or a leader, but as a student. This commitment to continuous improvement has its roots in my early years chasing musical dreams. Now, as I nurture my professional prowess, it's clear—a quest for knowledge is the melody that orchestrates success. #ProfessionalDevelopment #LearningJourney
