The NJBPU SDDC Supplier Diversity Development Council celebrates Juneteenth. Officially made a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States after the last remaining slaves in Texas learned of their freedom. Freedom, equity, and diversity go hand in hand and Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom has not always been a reality for all. As the work for equity continues, it’s important to remember the words of Opal Lee that “none of us are free until we are all free.” At the SDDC, we are committed to affirming equity and inclusion as central to our mission. We believe a diverse supplier base strengthens the utility industry and drives innovation. Our initiatives aim to support and empower diverse businesses, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to all. As we celebrate Juneteenth, we reaffirm our dedication to creating a more inclusive and equitable future. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #EmancipationDay #NJBPU #SupplierDiversity #Equity #Inclusion

The Conversation No One Wants to Have about Race ‼️ I’m often asked why I don’t speak more on racial issues affecting my own ‘community’. The reason is that the topic is so complex that I prefer to focus on doing good work and supporting people. However, I’ve come to realise that while you can try to change environments, ignorance exists everywhere, and it’s not about skin colour. People from all backgrounds may either love or hate you and your work, regardless of their skin colour. Some people, as mentioned by the person tagged in this post, will dislike you solely because of your skin colour, even if they share it. Let’s stop pretending that discussions on race are always a matter of “us versus them.” Good and bad traits exist in all communities. We need to find balance, addressing and uplifting communities while also calling out what’s wrong. This doesn’t mean we are self-hating; it means striving for balance and honesty.
