Lived Experience | Youth Worker | Mental Health | Corrections | Youth Justice | Specialising in Spent Sentences Act, Victoria. Managing your Criminal History. Any opinions or comments are my own and mine alone.
Ok, Ok, you dont need to say you were right Glenn! Everyone said they wont close Port Philip Prison and replace it with #WesternPlainsCorrectionalCentre. Ummmmm, well they are and it is one of the #smartest moves the Victorian Government has made in a long time. #PPP is very outdated and a lot of people very appreciative that we didn't need to wait as long as #Pentridge's closure to see this move. Then next biggest challenge for the prison is to change the culture. It wont be an easy fix, but it can be done. Would be awesome if they introduced #LivedExperience into the mix. Time will tell. #WesternPlainsCorrectionalCentre has an opportunity to do some innovative, creative and cutting edge programs. It doesn't matter about being #punative but rather #Desistence #Theory that allows them to reinvent themselves. Looking forward to the good reports from out of the centre. #redeemed Corrections Victoria Victorian Department of Health City of Greater Geelong ACSO Australia, Vacro, Jesuit Social Services, The Power In You Project, MEGT (Australia) Ltd, The Salvation Army Australia, OCTEC Limited Australia, Victoria Police, #Newbeginings #mentahealth #peersupport #custodialstaff #newbreed #Courts #justice, #redemption #Future #connectedness #potential

MP in 1970s, Chair SDP and Alliance in Wales 1980’s, schools inspector, company director. Now current affairs commentator, broadcaster and journalist
The #LiberalDemocrats manifesto for #GeneralElection2024 has this section on devolution and Wales - Deliver a fair deal for the people of Wales by: Completing the next stage of devolution in Wales by implementing the remaining Silk proposals, substantially reducing the number of powers reserved to Westminster, and increasing borrowing powers. Creating a distinct legal jurisdiction for Wales to reflect the growing divergence in law as a result of devolution. Devolving responsibility for rail services and infrastructure to Wales, with fair funding and shared governance on cross-border services. Devolving powers over youth justice, probation services, prisons and policing to allow Wales to create an effective, liberal, community-based approach to policing and tackling crime. Strengthening the devolution of powers over broadcasting, to tackle the lack of trusted sources of information and democratic accountability that were highlighted during the pandemic. Devolving Air Passenger Duty to put Wales on a fair playing field with Scotland and Northern Ireland and put Cardiff Airport on a fair playing field with regional airports in England. The challenge now will be will the pending Labour government its Welsh MPs and #WelshLabour move forward with the proposals. It will be a significant advance.

Last week, footage was released of the final moments of U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson’s life. Once again, we see the crushing violence of this racialized society and the horrific injustice of police brutality. We lament. We acknowledge the trauma, PTSD, anguish, fear, and anger this story can bring up. So first, we want to ensure our BIPOC community is taken care of, heard, and seen. And then, all together, we lament. We find ourselves looking directly at injustice and its violence, and we lament. We lament a life taken. We lament a Black man’s life taken. We lament a young Black man’s life taken. As bridge builders, we don’t stop at lament. We take our lament and foster transformation. We have to cultivate a holy imagination and actively work towards creating equitable systems. We have to be willing to ask ourselves and decision makers tough questions. What responsibilities lie with us? What can we do to make sure people are safe in their own homes? How can we create systems where everyone is treated fairly? How can we ensure lethal force is the absolute last resort? How can we better value life? What do we need to do for there to be liberty and justice for all? We lament. And then we move onward to leverage, leveraging our positions and resources for healing and restoration. Be color brave instead of colorblind. Ask questions. Be willing to investigate the history of policing in the U.S. and in your state. Accept historical truths and present realities. Engage in your community by voting, initiating community policing efforts, and looking at your city’s resources and budgets and what might be reallocated. Attend community meetings where discussions can happen and lead to change. Support mental health initiatives for your community and for law enforcement officers. Listen to the experiences of families who have endured police brutality. Speak up when police brutality occurs. Be dedicated to figuring out a different way of policing within your local context. Look at what other cities have done that have yielded positive results. Give yourself space to weep and mourn. It doesn’t have to be this way. Say Roger Fortson’s name. Hold his family and friends in prayer. And know that transformation begins with you. #bethebridge #lament #rogerfortson

The States Supporting Familiar Faces Project, led by the CSG Justice Center with support from Arnold Ventures, has worked with local and state stakeholders in Georgia and New Mexico since 2021 to reorient funding and enact policies to improve outcomes for people who are “familiar faces,” a small population that frequently encounters law enforcement, jails, courts, crisis response, emergency departments, homeless services, and other behavioral health systems. Through cross-system collaboration, data collection, and information sharing efforts, state and local partners are taking strategic action to improve outcomes for these individuals. Learn more about these efforts, and how other states can follow in the footsteps of Georgia and New Mexico, in our new report, Improving Outcomes for People Who Are “Familiar Faces” in Georgia and New Mexico: https://lnkd.in/e64gqtyw

An understanding of the physical, cognitive, and / or psychological limitations allows for the vocational expert to assess the impact of the impairments by placing the individual's residual functional capacity into physical demand classifications. The residual functional capacity indicates the effect of the disability on the individual ability to perform activities of daily living as well as activities and duties in the work environments. #vocationalexpert #personalinjury #workerscomp #plaintiff #defense #rehabilitationcounselor #law #rehabilitationcounseling #BRVA

The Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs have been diligently working with our community and demanding meaningful and actionable engagement of the RCMP to create a community safety plan which clearly requires more action, more resources and thorough investigations. In addition, we have been insisting that the RCMP stop enforcing industry injunctions utilizing militarized gunned officers on our land. We will no longer stand for unexplained deaths of our people, no more missing Indigenous women and no more violent action taken by industry led militarized RCMP force on industry and land issues related to injunctions. There is no ethical or moral reasoning why C-IRG RCMP would bring violence to our people over injunctions but do not have the resources to solve or put efforts towards unexplained deaths of our people and for our ongoing issues of missing and murdered Indigenous women. Our prayers are with the recent victim and the victims' family Ms. Gunanoot and family. RIP Kaylee Gunanoot.
