✊🏠 In 2023, we joined forces with Shelter to campaign for fairer renting, amplifying the voices of our customers who told us they wanted the Bank to drive meaningful, societal change on issues such as homelessness. Our campaign has called for the introduction of robust legislation to provide the answer to a broken private renting system that is impacting millions of renters across the country. The Renters Reform Bill could have been the answer. But due to amendments that have weakened and watered down this version of the bill, we no longer believe that it can deliver for renters. ❌ We cannot stand by a bill that doesn't take renters' concerns seriously, that provides loopholes for irresponsible landlords, and that does nothing to provide security and stability for the 500 renters facing no-fault evictions every single day. Section 21 evictions, also known as "no-fault" evictions, are a major cause of homelessness - at least 26,000 households have been evicted through the law since 2019, according to Shelter. Section 21 allows landlords to evict tenants with just two months’ notice without giving them a reason. This leaves thousands of people who are renting in the lurch, forever unstable and unable to find a place to build a life. The insecurity can place a huge burden on people affecting their health and wellbeing. Some renters are afraid to speak out about issues with their housing for fear of being evicted. In tomorrow's #KingsSpeech, the Government must stick to its manifesto pledge to "immediately" ban so-called no-fault evictions and deliver further improvements for renters through the Renters Reform Bill. 🏠 Are you a landlord with spare property/rooms? Facing homelessness is a worrying experience for anyone, so we’re appealing to private sector landlords so we can continue to offer vital housing support to those most vulnerable. We can offer support for landlords to help house households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Currently, all types of accommodation are needed. Landlords will be offered cash incentives and extensive support for them and their tenants, in exchange for letting to residents who are at risk of homelessness or who are ready to move on from homelessness services and live independently. Support includes:- ✅ financial help to pay towards deposits and rent in advance, which is paid to landlords directly ✅ tenants support and advice to help ensure that tenancies are sustainable ✅ providing specialist advice on tenancy matters and changes in the law ✅ help to resolve disputes if they arise ✅ providing a named point of contact from the start Find out more here: https://orlo.uk/g8fUa
