Whats peoples thoughts on Hello Fresh? I started using them for the first time this month as a way to save a bit of time and avoid the kids eating beige food when I dont have time to properly cook. I've avoided it for years as I love cooking - but time isnt always on my side when it comes to getting the kids picked up, fed and out to various clubs/sports etc. My first week I was reasonably impressed - the foods ok, the portions are better than I expected and it avoided me resorting to pizza/pasta/burgers etc as a quick solution. However they did forget to put my chicken in the box for one meal. This is my second week and this time they put the chicken in but it was rotten and now my house stinks of rotten meat. It's ok though because when I raised the issue they offered me a 4p credit to my account. 4 pence. I want to love Hello Fresh - I want it to be a solution I use to simplify midweek meals - but so far missing meat and rotten meat has taken a bit of the shine off. I also find veg is clinging on for dear life by the time you hit day 5! Have I just been unlucky?

Back then in my secondary school, one of the students' worst meals was #beans. Yeah, I had the opportunity to attend a boarding school. (All girls) If I could remember vividly, we ate beans twice a week, on Wednesday night and another day. Students were practically begging for beans to be scraped out from our meal timetable 😂. The dining hall would be so scanty and if students were present, they were there to avoid the situation of them serving punishments. Yeah, another weird rule my school had. Whether you're eating or not, coming to the dining hall is a must! (Is it common in most boarding schools?) The few students that probably had no other option than to eat the beans or those that loved beans generally always did something crazy. 😂 They added additional seasoning to it! Crazy, right? I mean, normally, beans can be cooked without using seasoning cubes, right? So why add extra on top of the initial one that's added? When I asked why, the only answer I got was: So it would make the beans sweeter. But here's the catch: Adding seasoning cubes to your ready meals won't make the meal any sweeter. Instead, it has some side effects and can cause digestive problems due to some seasoning cubes containing Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), which is a flavor enhancer that can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain in some people who are sensitive to it. "So, the next time you see someone adding seasoning cubes to their beans, don't judge them too harshly. They might be trying to make the best out of a bad situation. Or they might just have a different taste than you. Either way, it's their choice and their beans. But if you ask me, I would rather eat something else. Beans are not my favorite meal, especially not the ones from my secondary school.😁 I still have nightmares about them sometimes. What about you? Do you like beans? Eating out… The phrase you don’t know what you have til you miss it is applicable. With blown windows from the tornado they labeled the house as uninhabitable. So hotels and eating out it becomes. Eating out has always been a treat and not the norm, largely because it’s expensive and home cooked meals are just awesome (thanks to my wife). Here some of the kids get their favorite, “breakfast for dinner” (pancakes, French toast). There will always be storms that knock out windows, roofs that leak, and adjustments to life. So how do we handle those things? (Use the metaphor that comes to mind) Learn from the young ones, order breakfast for dinner, put a smile on that face, and enjoy the days you’ve been given with anyone you are able to love! (Note, it was raining like crazy all through the meal and even when we had to run to the truck - don’t get discouraged, all nights give in to daylight) PS - use syrup!!

You know how it is. It’s 3:00, the kids just got home from school and they want a snack before dinner. You don’t want to give them something too heavy because dinner is in just a couple hours but you always want something that will hold them over. I have got you covered with this week’s Amy’s Effortless Eats! Check out my Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Bites = melted dark chocolate + sliced bananas + peanut butter + coarse salt ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Spread a dollop of peanut butter onto a banana slice. Top with another banana slice to make a little banana and peanut butter sandwich. Using a fork, dip half of the banana sandwich into the melted chocolate. Place on a parchment line sheet tray and repeat with remaining ingredients. Top with a sprinkle of sea salt and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes until chocolate hardens. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Change it up! Use almond butter or add jelly/jam to your banana bites.
