Today, on World AIDS Day, we stand in solidarity with millions across the globe in the fight against HIV/AIDS. This day is not just about remembering those we've lost to this devastating disease, but also about celebrating the strides we've made in treatment and prevention. At the Global Fund, I'm continually inspired by the collective efforts of communities, activists, governments, and global health partners. This past year has been a testament to our shared commitment: - 24.5 million individuals on antiretroviral therapy for HIV. - 15.3 million people reached with HIV prevention services. - 53.1 million HIV tests conducted in countries supported by the Global Fund. - Over 700,000 HIV-positive mothers receiving medication to protect their babies. These numbers represent extraordinary strides, but while we celebrate these milestones, our mission extends beyond treatment and prevention; it's also about combating the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS. Fear and misinformation create barriers that hinder our fight. Knowledge is our most potent tool against stigma. By educating ourselves and others, we foster an environment of empathy and understanding, crucial for those affected by HIV/AIDS. As we forge ahead, let's commit to not only intensifying our efforts but also to spreading awareness and compassion. Let's ensure that everyone, regardless of their status, feels supported and included. This World AIDS Day, let's vow to eliminate stigma and make healthcare accessible for all. Together, we can achieve a world free of AIDS. #WorldAIDSDay #EndTheStigma #HealthForAll

Happy World AIDS Day! The theme of this year's #WorldAIDSDay is particularly apt. No one understands the magnitude of this issue better than those who are directly affected by it. Allowing communities to take the lead not only empowers them but also ensures their protection. This is key for #Safeguarding. Consider service delivery: when it's community-led, it becomes safer, more inclusive, and has a wider reach and impact. It's essential that communities are not merely included as symbolic participants (tokens); they must be genuinely empowered to lead. This approach gives us a real fighting chance in the fight to end #AIDS.

Today, on World AIDS Day, we must recommit to ending HIV and AIDS. Over the last two decades, we have made remarkable progress in fighting this terrible disease, with AIDS-related deaths down by 72% since 2002 and HIV infections down by 62%. But the fight isn't over, and we are not on track to meet the SDG3 goal of ending HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Now the biggest threat to further progress is the alarming erosion of human rights we're seeing in many parts of the world, both rich and poor. Stigma and discrimination, criminalisation, and other punitive laws and policies prevent those most at risk from getting the services they need. The fight against HIV is as much a fight for justice and equity as it is a bio-medical fight. Even the most innovative bio-medical tools will fail if those who most need them can't get them. To beat HIV/AIDS we must dismantle the human rights-related barriers that prevent key populations accessing the services they need, tackle the deep gender inequalities that make adolescent girls and young women disproportionately vulnerable to infection, and address the underlying inequities that drive starkly different health outcomes. We will only succeed if we put people and communities at the centre of everything we do., and if we empower communities to lead. #WorldAIDSDay #LetCommunitiesLead

Ahead of #InternationalWomensDay, we want to spotlight The Lancet's piece on the role of women in the fight to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat. Women globally bear a disproportionate burden of the epidemic, accounting for 53% of people living with HIV in 2022. Let's honor the contributions of countless women to the global HIV/AIDS response, and to the fight for health more widely. #IWD2024 Read more: https://lnkd.in/enyUDXan

Did you know OSAP was founded in 1984 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic? This year’s #WorldAIDSDay theme is “World AIDS Day 35: Remember and Commit.” The day serves as a reminder of the global struggle to end HIV-related stigma, an opportunity to honor those we have lost, & a commitment to continue working toward a day when HIV is no longer a public health threat. Today, on World AIDS Day, we stand united in the fight to end AIDS by 2030. Uganda has made significant strides in reducing HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths, but we must continue to work tirelessly until AIDS is no longer a public health threat. Let us recommit ourselves to breaking the cycle of HIV transmission and creating a world where everyone can live healthy and fulfilling lives. Together, we can make a difference. #WorldAIDSDay #EndAIDS2030
