The University of Colorado Boulder recognized Kristin Donley for her efforts to go above and beyond to support students as they pursue their higher education dreams. Kristin is certified in secondary science and STEM in the state of Colorado and currently serves as a science teacher at Arapahoe Ridge High School. Prior to becoming a BVSD Board of Education member in December, Lalenia Quinlan Aweida devoted her time to various initiatives aimed at safeguarding vulnerable individuals. From her involvement with Blue Sky Bridge, working in classrooms as a Sexual Assault Prevention Educator, serving as a Victim Advocate for the Sheriff’s Office, to her tenure with Moving to End Sexual Assault and her Restorative Justice work with the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, it’s clear that Quinlan Aweida is committed to the well-being of Boulder and the surrounding community. “We have to address the primary problem of declining enrollment and what we're going to do to make sure our kids get a comprehensive education,” shared Quinlan Aweida. Alex Medler brings 32 years of experience advocating for education to the BVSD Board of Education. His professional path has been diverse, spanning roles in research, policy development, and advocacy. Notably, he played a pivotal role in shaping charter school policies - working closely with state and federal agencies to ensure that all children have access to quality education regardless of their background.   “I came to education policy as a way to advance social justice,” expressed Medler. “For me, it's part of an effort to ensure that everyone feels empowered to control what they do with their life and that they have the options to be successful.” Read more: https://trst.in/babLBN

Ash Mattys sees her job as more than teaching language arts. She’s there to ensure her students feel seen. “What I needed when I was their age was for someone to tell me that it was going to be okay,” shared Mattys. “I want them to know that I see their uniqueness and remind them that they are resilient.
