Interesting move for the industrial enzyme sector…

British food trader Czanikow Group Ltd is set to expand into the Brazilian ethanol and power markets, with plans to launch CzEnergy for ethanol trading, leveraging Brazil's robust biofuel industry. With approval from Brazil's ANP, Czarnikow aims to tap into a market 50% larger than sugar. The move aligns with Brazil's significant reliance on ethanol, constituting 40% of its light vehicle fuel. Additionally, Czarnikow eyes electricity trading in Brazil's growing ACL market, reflecting a strategic diversification beyond sugar.

Ethanol, fuel, natural gas, sugarcane, lubricants, and logistics. That's how I would summarize the company of Cosan (NYSE: CSAN), a Brazilian agribusiness giant that operates in all those markets. Cosan is a holding company, which means it owns or holds stakes in more than one business, thus spreading its risk across a variety of industries. Shell and Cosan are capitalizing on rising demand for ESG and Green Bonds through their joint-venture Raízen. This is the first major green bond issuance tied to production of second-generation ethanol (as far as I'm aware). According to Infralogic, the bonds which were issued yesterday are securitized by receivables which are underpinned by a take-or-pay offtake agreement with Shell. Raizen's E2G technology, which relies on technology developed in Ottawa by iogen, achieves a 90% carbon emissions reduction when compared to gasoline.

Raízen, a leading global producer of ethanol from sugarcane, has inaugurated its state-of-the-art second generation ethanol (E2G) plant at the Bonfim Bioenergy Complex. With an investment of BRL1.2 billion (USD230 million), this new facility is the largest of its kind in the world, boasting an annual production capacity of 82 million litres (21.6 million gallons). Remarkably, 80% of this capacity is already secured under long-term contracts. The future of energy is now! Raízen has been exporting second-generation ethanol (E2G) to Europe since 2016, but now with Bonfim’s production, we have our relevance with clients and expanded the penetration of Cellulosic Ethanol. Raízen's solutions are real and already in the market. Raízen's E2G has a carbon footprint that is 85% lower than regular American gasoline and 30% lower than First Generation Ethanol (E1G), as it is derived from the residues of E1G and sugar production. Its waste-based characteristic does not compete with food and has the potential to increase production capacity by 50% with the same planted area. Additionally, it has certifications that attests its international quality standards, ensuring higher added value to the product and enabling it to meet the demands of different markets beyond road transport, such as aviation (SAF), maritime, chemicals, and others. #Bunge has entered into definitive agreement to sell its 50% ownership share in BP Bunge Bioenergia JV in Brazil to #BP. This step completes one of Bunge’s long standing strategic priority of exiting from the non-core Sugar and Bioenergy business. The transaction allows Bunge to focus on its core business at a transformative time in the company. Rolling back the clock, setting up innovative $700 million change of control free credit facility in 2018 with no immediate M&A transaction on the horizon was a key enabler in Bunge and BP coming together to form the BP Bunge Bioenergia JV in 2019. The debt automatically travelled to the JV with no recourse to Bunge at JV formation, helping Bunge achieve its deleveraging goal while bringing in a strategic partner in form of BP.
