My experience with this kind of resistance - as chair of a VT town’s planning commission and vice chair of a VT regional planning commission - is that industrial scale was okay if there were: 1) legit authentic conversations with the town during concept and planning phase, 2) local jobs as part of the project, and 3) some kind of financial investment in the town. These 3 aren’t difficult to do. And I watched big firms do this well and others fall way short. But it’s definitely doable. https://lnkd.in/ed_tP5nM

There is so much to learn about resilience in affordable housing, and how owners/developers can access the resources that now exist through #InflationReductionAct. With support from Wells Fargo, we are pleased to be leading an 8-month long IRA Bootcamp program for 50 small and medium-sized affordable housing owners and developers so that they can get the support they need to bring renewable energy, resilience investments, electrification upgrades and more to the affordable housing building stock. Today, we're focusing on resilience with New Ecology, Inc. and Brian Levy (https://lnkd.in/eR3HfXPE) using great materials from Novogradac & Company LLP. Want to see past episodes? (We've recorded and shared them all!) Check out https://lnkd.in/e8VxE2YA. [And we're doing the same thing for Housing Finance Agencies in 35 states -- you can find those at the same link!]

#publication alert! We loved this new white paper from colleagues Jennifer Amann at The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) and Kara Saul Rinaldi at AnnDyl Policy Group, which details ways that home energy efficiency upgrades can be funded through "braiding and stacking new federal funds with existing state, local, utility, and other resources." In this paper, entitled, "Retrofitting America’s Homes: Designing Home Energy Programs that Leverage Federal Climate Investments with Other Funding", Jennifer and Kara show how policymakers, efficiency program administrators, and other decision makers can: 1. Direct funding toward program elements that have proven most successful 2. Guide property owners and contractors as they navigate funding options for their projects Check it out at: https://lnkd.in/gGJQurBZ

The dichotomy of the cover photo with large out-of-town business leaders evaluating top-down policies should not be missed. While our renewable energy portfolio is superb, it is the strength of our people and bottom-up action that Stoke and other actions provide which makes Denton a great place to live, work, and play. In many ways, we have a strong renewable portfolio precisely because grass-roots groups made their voice heard. What do you think would make Denton better? Get out there and start doing it. https://lnkd.in/gtSPuvxN
