The Future Homes Standard for 2025 may not sound like the most glamorous topic however a clear framework for building low-carbon, energy efficient new homes is long overdue. Positive changes to building regs have already taken place however the upcoming Standard (next steps and timings still TBC!) is silent on things such as embodied carbon and solar panels and will ultimately fall far short of CCC targets for all homes to be net zero by 2025. On January 3rd, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Building Technologies Office released a Request for Information (RFI) to solicit feedback from industry stakeholders on Part 1 of a draft National Definition for a Zero Emissions Building, which addresses operational emissions.
