(KY3) - Neighbors in Christian County are up in arms over a proposal to build a large battery storage facility near Ozark. They say only a handful of households were even told about it ahead of time. The project has been proposed by Black Mountain Energy Storage and if approved it would sit behind the substation off Old Prospect Road and Elk Valley. The facility would store lithium ion batteries and the people living nearby told KY3 they’re upset not only with the potential environmental impacts but they say they barely got any notice. “If it is safe, that’s great, but prove it to us,” said area HOA president Jack Peavey. Black Mountain Energy Storage wants to build on 30+ acres of land near Ozark for a lithium ion battery storage facility. Those in the area like Kendra Blankenship say there was little notice about an upcoming Planning and Zoning meeting. “So there’s approximately five to seven homes that were actually notified,” said Blankenship. “Nobody else outside of that radius had any idea until we started speaking about it.” The facility would be surrounded by 8 foot fences and would contain more than 50 large battery containers. Blankenship and others in the area say they worry about some of the impacts a battery storage facility would have on the environment. http://www.OneVoiceNow.org website, Explains utilizing established public TV stations to voting on local issues. Self-supply is likely the best approach for Muskingum if the goal is to secure the lowest possible rate. Who wants to be at the mercy of "contracts with "energy suppliers" won't matter for much in capacity deficient grids. These alternative suppliers will drop like dead fleas from the resulting consequences of price & system instability. Remember, the two are directly proportional.

Early voting has started in Muskingum County, Ohio - Please vote yes for Gas and Electric Aggregation.

#energystorage has been viewed as a panacea of grid reliability and renewables integration. As important as storage is, that might be a bit of an extreme perspective in my view, generally speaking. HOWEVER, it certainly made a huge difference in keeping the California grid going during this recent heat wave. And as more batteries are deployed and demanded by utilities, the costs will continue to drop and perhaps it will become the panacea some claim it is. https://lnkd.in/gez9Ms8P #reliability #DERs #BESS #resilience

I've done the (simple) maths on the Labour 100% net zero electricity by 2030. It's simply impossible unless you can commission a Sizewell C a year for six years (bear in mind that work started on Hinkley Point in 2010 and it's not going to be commissioned until 2030). Alternatively they could simple increase the wind, wave and solar capacity byt 150%. that might be possible, although it's taken 20 years to build the current capacity. But they'll also have to be able to cover a 100 hour dunkelflaute. That's either £1.4 trillion of battery storage or a mere 400 Dinorwigs, costing some £170 billion. More than three fourths of North Carolina voters (78%) across a spectrum of political ideologies support legislation that would authorize a study to find ways to modernize North Carolina’s current electricity system to make it more reliable and provide customers with more options, according to a new poll conducted for Conservatives for Clean Energy. https://lnkd.in/gNP4xF9F Energy customers want market reform in the Carolinas. The Clean Energy Buyers Association along with nine companies and four other business and consumer advocacy groups recently sent a letter to North Carolina lawmakers, urging approval of House Bill 503. The bill would authorize and fund the creation of a legislative study committee to evaluate competitive wholesale market options to ensure a well-designed and well-implemented market for North Carolina ratepayers. Transmission lines - "Can't go underground, can't go over road corridors, can't follow unused but still predominantly government owned rail corridors, no, need to go over private agricultural land" Including over a 160 year old merino stud. Transgrid answer 'Oh, just agist stock elsewhere during the construction phase'. Seriously? Maybe Transgrid needs a biosecurity lesson or three? It gets better, Transgrid seems to think that it can 'off-set' an endangered species....... What was that about 'social licence'? Yes, an inquiry is essential. There should be public hearings. Such an obvious thing to do one would think. However, this is opposed by the Government, the Greens and the ever caring and ever so concerned about just about everything, Senator Pocock. https://lnkd.in/g3JxxaV4

Public Power in Maine is on the ballot. Some polls https://lnkd.in/gNP8qxT8 say that most voters want to keep the investor-owned model. Public power advocates promote local control instead of foreign companies (Central Maine Power https://lnkd.in/gVZHcQgC is owned by Spanish company Avangrid and Versant Power https://lnkd.in/gv-havDX is owned by Canadian company Enmax). Time to register to vote in Maine! Ballot Question 3 proposes replacing Maine’s two investor-owned utility companies — CMP and Versant — with a board of elected and appointed members and a private third-party operator. The ballot question would change who owns the poles, wires, substations and other associated infrastructure, and who is responsible for delivering electricity. It would not change who owns electricity production or supply. Watch this news video from 10/15/23. https://lnkd.in/gFzjvmjJ Thanks. Mike #publicpower #IOU #Maine
