How should you set up your internship? 1) AUTHENTICITY Far too often I see construction companies providing internship programs that do not align with their day to day operations in an effort to attract the best talent and quantity of interns. If you are creating a program that does not mirror what your full-time employees experience you could be creating retention challenges (for both the interns & the full-time folks) as well as creating bad habits or "hollow spots" long-term. Ground your recruiting & development programs in reality. Don't try and make your internship program rewarding and attractive - make your entire company culture rewarding and attractive and then have your internship program mirror your operational expectations. You may end up with less interns but the ones that do join you will stay & be trained properly according to your culture & expectations. Thank you Nanette Miner, Ed.D. for the opportunity to speak with you about our internship experience at Sargent. #construction #internship #investinginpeople #employeeowned
