On July 1st, we celebrate Keti Koti, marking the end of slavery in the Netherlands, Suriname, St. Maarten, St. Eustatius, Saba, Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. To honor this day, our team in the Netherlands has crafted this beautiful artwork highlighting traditional food, music, and clothing including; Heri Heri, a dish that consists of cassava, sweet potato, plantain, egg, and fried cod. Bigi Sprikri, the annual, lively parade celebrating Afro-Caribbean culture and freedom. And garments including an Angisa (head scarf), Koto (dress) and Yaki (jacket) worn by Afro-Surinamese women. Join us in celebrating this special day! Artists: Simon Buijs, Mijke Coebergh, Brian H.

Today, I celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day. "Our country has long failed to recognize and acknowledge its dark history of erasure and harm brought upon the first inhabitants of the Americas...By designating Indigenous Peoples’ Day a federal holiday, we take a small but important step toward recognizing the injustices in our nation’s history and uplifting the vibrant traditions, history, and culture of all indigenous communities — an integral part of the cultural fabric of the United States." https://lnkd.in/eCx6NvD4

It's fascinating to explore how African identity is being explored and celebrated in diaspora communities around the world. In Latin America and the Caribbean, there is a growing movement of people of African descent reclaiming their heritage and celebrating their history and culture. For example, in Brazil, there is a vibrant Afro-Brazilian movement that celebrates the country's African roots through music, dance, and art. Similarly, in Jamaica, the Rastafarian movement has helped to revive and promote the island's African heritage. Even in the US, the Black Lives Matter movement has highlighted the importance of celebrating #ZIFF23 #ASPIRATION5 #AfricanInspiration Telco Broadband and Beyond PlayAfrikaTV DStv EcoSureZW
