Think you can make ~ 800% return in 1.5hrs? The recipe calls for 11 sharp college students, 3 of my kids, 1.5hrs of time, a $120 investment…and out pops a 792% return. Conceptually, the “lemonade stand” competition is pretty straightforward. However, if you know me/our team, you know we like to do things differently… Here’s how it went down: ✅ Three teams given a 24hr notice for the competition and a $40 investment. ✅ Each team picked a mystery celebrity guest to join their stand (my kids will get used to this at some point). ✅ Rules – 1.5hr window to setup/sell, otherwise no rules. ✅ Most net revenue wins. 😎 Plot twist #1 – one team gives it away and sells a different value prop. 😎 Plot twist #2 – one team splits into multiple sites around Greenville. 😎 Plot twist #3 – one team finds an “in” with a local neighborhood pool to pre-sell product. I was completely surprised by who won, but maybe I shouldn’t be. The winning group (by a long shot) was the one that GAVE IT ALL AWAY and sold a different value prop. I could unpack the “why’s” in a lengthy article, but the short version is that a combination of selling/supporting more than lemonade was magnetic and made their customers want to pay for more than lemonade. The generally still thriving “tipflation” world didn’t hurt either. There’s nothing like hitting the streets to experience real grit, risk, and reward. I’m extremely proud of these awesome students…and of course my “celebrity guests”, too. This is why this program ROCKS! There is nothing like hands on experience to teach these concepts!
So exciting!
Great learning exercise! (and I have to say, very refreshing cold lemonade after walking around downtown GVL 😅 )
