Just about caught up with myself after a week in Chicago last week, it was fun to be back in the US. I always love searching out what’s emerging away from home and here’s my key take aways a from the week, both from the Inspired Home show and on a personal level, it was a busy few days…
#1 The Latine community is really influencing and trail blazing in the design industry, some insightful talks over the week supported our research, acknowledging they are also a key consumer group that brands need to get to know.
#2 Colour makes us happy! Joyful combinations of colour which inspire and motivate us to find a ‘feeling of home’, homes after all, are our sanctuary.
#3 Convenience is a key value, and not just in homewares, but products that ease pressures in our busy lifestyles, support us in our health goals and fit our shrinking spaces will win every time.
#4 Beyond tomorrow was a strong theme within the keynote talks at the show, brands and businesses are starting to really value foresight. Sounds obvious but it’s quite striking.
#5 The kidult is a growing consumer to watch. We are never too old to play.
#6 With compliments! I got stopped multiple times and complimented on my dress, my footwear, my opening keynote presentation, it felt good! This is my personal takeaway, tell people when you like something! Make others feel good.
#7 Make people laugh. I saw so much ‘just for the fun of it’ product, marketing messages, brand DNA shining through, counter balancing the global feeling of poly crisis.
#8 I’m sorry, I’ve got to say it. I just don’t love a deep pan pizza. But one things clear, the at home pizza making market is really booming.
#9 Nostalgia is still our comfort zone. Brands are really tapping into retro, nostalgic and heritage storytelling hooks to entice consumers, but the watch out is definitely ensuring modern day values are echoed in marketing messages.
#10 Chicago LOVES a st Patrick’s day celebration- they dye the river green! It was quite a spectacle but also, was I the only one with environmental concerns watching this unfold?! 🫣
