A Little Known Heart Danger - Do you know what your LP(a) level is? Up to 1 in 5 people have high Lipoprotein (a)- the shortened name for it is LP (a)- Say: "LP Little a"... putting them at risk for heart attacks, blood clots & strokes. Read this very important NY Times article written by Anahad O'Connor on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018 which sent a great wave of patients to their cardiologists who never tested them for this inherited form of cholesterol. Doctors do not routinely order the LP (a) blood test. Everyone should have this test once in their life to find out if they have this inherited form of high cholesterol & the sooner the better. And, if you inherit elevated LP (a) from 'both' your parents, your risk level increases. You must know if you have elevated LP(a) because it puts you at very high risk for heart attacks, blood clots & strokes. A wonder drug that promises to dramatically reduce elevated LP (a) levels is in clinical trials right now & many folks are anxious to see it hit the pharmaceutical marketplace. Ask your cardiologist, GP or internist to test your blood for this inherited condition the next time you see them...and if you find out you DO have elevated LP(a), make sure your children, siblings, parents, aunts, uncles & cousins get tested too. If you test positive for elevated LP (a), your vascular system is affected by it from the day you're born. Though correct diet and exercise don't have a great impact against elevated LP(a), it's still important to control your sugar level and unhealthy fat intake, eat a Mediterranean diet & exercise, because it will give your heart and arteries the best shot against other forms of abnormal lipid levels. The American College of Physicians (ACP) has published new care guidelines suggesting higher blood sugar targets for people with type 2 diabetes. Published March 6 in the Annals of Internal Medicine, these new guidelines call for A1C targets of 7-8% for most T2 PWDs, noting that lower A1C goals of below 6.0% as recommended by the big diabetes orgs are too strict. The American Diabetes Association (ADA), American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE), American Association of Clinical Endos (AACE) and Endocrine Society have issued a joint statement in opposition. Their main concern: This could prevent many T2Ds from receiving the full benefits of long-term glucose control. With my research experience of 30 years, I feel Diabetics must maintain their HbA1C levels below 6.5 & this can be best achieved by... 1. at least 1 hour of exercise, walking 8000 steps 2. Diets full of fresh vegetables & fruits rich in fibers 3. Restrict salt to 5 g daily max 4. Restrict sugar or sugary sweets 5. Avoid smoking & alcohol 6. Avoid deep fried foods 7. Avoid bakery & other high trans fats foods 8. Adequately hydrated with at least 3 litres of water in a day preferably warm 9. Use Ginger, Lemons, Garlic, Pudina leaves, Fenugreek, adequately. 10. Regularly monitor Hemoglobin levels & WBC RBC Morphology. Increasing blood glucose gets bound to haemoglobin to form glycosylated hemoglobin commonly understood as HbA1C. Higher HbA1C is the indicator of diabetes. Now the difference between HbA1C of 7 & HbA1C of 8 can be dangerous. Higher HbA1C means more iron or haemoglobin lost to glycosylation. This increases fatigue value, lower blood oxygen levels, Cellular stress & can result into chronic medical conditions related to blood circulation, atherosclerosis, stroke, neurodegenerative disorders, insomnia, sleep apnea, & even deadly diseases like cancers. Health natural providers know the importance of #homocysteine (stroke, heart attack)and how to lower in ideal levels (7-8) with diet and natural supplementation. It is not routine test by conventional medicine because there are no drugs to lower it. Homocysteine (HC) is a blood test marker very important in cardiovascular health, Alzheimers and Parkinsons disease. Persistent HC promotes the formation of #atherosclerotic plaques, #atherothrombotic events through #endothelial dysfunction, the enhancement of #inflammation and the so-called thrombophilic profile. For these reasons, in addition to the traditional risk factors, both the #WorldHealthOrganization (WHO) and the Health Ministry agreed to consider HC, a strong contributor for cardiovascular disease. Elevated concentrations of HC are indeed implicated in an augmented risk of #dementia, in particular #Alzheimer's disease, but also in both regional and whole #brainatrophy in healthy elderly people. Moreover, high levels of HC were found in the blood of #Parkinson's and #epileptic patients. The leading causes of HC are a range of genetic defects as well as various lifestyle and nutritional habits, in particularly those related to certain pathophysiological conditions and to the use of drugs such as antypsychotics. The review in this paper suggests HC should be not only considered as a biomarker and a risk factor for potential pathologies, but should be also mentioned as a #nutraceutical target. In the October issue of Gastroenterology, researchers examine the association between vitamin D intake and risk of subsequent CRC over six and a half years in a cohort of Korean adults. Higher vitamin D levels contributed to a lower risk of CRC in adults under 50. The recent surge in chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, IBD, and certain cancers among younger populations highlights the importance of maintaining adequate vitamin D levels starting in early life.
