Yes—and far too many people with #endometriosis experience intersectional health care discrimination on the basis of sex, disability, and often race and other underserved identities as well. Far too often, health care providers do not take their pain and other symptoms seriously, resulting in delays in diagnoses and inadequate treatment. The same is true for just about any other chronic health condition that causes chronic pain and disproportionately effects cis women, transgender men, and non-binary people. This is yet another reason that it is so critical that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for #CivilRights quickly finalize new regulations robustly implementing #Section1557, the Affordable Care Act's nondiscrimination provision, and invest in public education to ensure that the public understands their rights and what to do when they're violated.
NICHD-funded researchers identified DNA modifications that contribute to gene expression differences observed in tissue samples from the uterine lining of women with endometriosis, compared with those without the disease. These findings improve our understanding of the varied effects of endometriosis and may inform new treatment approaches.
