The year is 2024, and it's been 11 years since I graduated from MIT. Although I believe that we as a human society have made progress for the better in tech, one clear thing is that the world, as I know it, feels more divided than before. More than ever, it's essential for programs like MISTI to exist so that students can venture on their own to explore different cultures and customs and form their own opinions rather than taking what is told to them as the only truth. We are all interesting, unique, and special individuals, but the world puts us into buckets for simplicity, and we are also often told to pick a bucket. It's an imperfect system, yet the one that seems to have been most sustainable. MISTI may just be a fun and cool experience for many of these students. Still, the people they meet, the food they taste, the history they learn, and the culture they experience are invaluable education and learning that will put real faces and people in front of these "buckets," build empathy and help them realize how we have so much more in common than differences. That's the most critical learning one can do at a formative time, like in college, to feel more connected to other humans and grow internally about what being a human means beyond the labels. When I did MISTI Israel in 2010, I had a formative experience. I met a diverse group of people and made friends who put many more faces to the identities of Israelis, Beoudines, Palestinians, and Jordanians. 🏆🎉Next Gen WA Award Finalist Announcement🏆🎉 Kim has been on a mission since 2021 to shape the future of education at PCACS. He has taken the TIDES program, a dynamic acronym standing for Technology Innovation Design Enterprise Sustainability, and transformed it into a vibrant and all-encompassing educational offering spanning Years 7-10.😍 When Kim first arrived at the school, the concept of TIDES existed, but the program had yet to take shape. With his visionary approach, he introduced challenge-based learning methods, inspiring students to delve into a world of innovation, human-centred design thinking, and sustainability.💡 Under Kim's guidance, students embarked on a journey of discovery, identifying areas within the school that could be enhanced to better support both the school community and environmental priorities. Beyond the school's confines, they also reached out to national and international innovation and entrepreneurship programs, connecting with like-minded individuals and organisations.💼 The results speak for themselves: Kim's students have achieved success at every level. His innovative leadership has not only given students the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world but also empowered them to become forward-thinking change-makers. ���� 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞? For me, there are 3️⃣ factors.   1️⃣ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: in my case spending a year as an ASSIST American Secondary Schools for International Students and Teachers Scholar at St. Anne's-Belfield School in Virginia at age 16. Whenever I meet other alumni, there is a sense of knowing each other - even without a large introduction. It’s like meeting old friends also thanks to people like Dr. Gabriel Wittmann.👋   2️⃣ 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀: My year with ASSIST changed my life. As I was going through old photos, I still remember the sunny day I arrived in Charlottesville 36 years ago (according to my diary after a cancelled flight from New York after orientation week in Hoboken🙂). On that day I found my second family and a home away from home that we come back to almost every summer.   3️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁: As you can see from the pictures, this is where ASSIST American Secondary Schools for International Students and Teachers meets BUSINESS@SCHOOL - A BCG INITIATIVE. Have just been going through the program and pre-activities for the #innerdevelopmentgoals #globalsummit. 👇 I have to say, I am getting pretty excited about just how engaging and stimulating this program looks - I am even looking forward to staying awake late into the night to have the opportunity to be involved in these discussions. I was happy to share my experiences attending conferences with the APWEN student collegiate members of FUTMinna chapter. I got good feedbacks and l am happy that more students from my school will be attending this year's APWEN conference. My first ever conference as a student was the APWEN 2021 conference and I was persuaded to attend by a senior colleague. With the experience l got from attending my first conference, no one need talk me into ensuring that l plan to attend at least a conference or anything related (offline events) every year. Attending conferences is paying for more exposure. You get to learn new things, meet new people, know new places, get access to very useful information that will not be shared in classrooms. You won't have access to the top professionals you get to have access to on a regular day, some of their consultations also cost huge sums of money, and you get to have access to the them through conferences. As a student, you get opportunities to attend these events at very subsidized rates and sometimes for free, fully sponsored. Like l would always tell fellow students, make plans to pay for more exposure if it requires you paying. Look for ways to get in there like through volunteering and looking for ways of being sponsored. There's nothing to regret at all. Some of the relationships I have fostered through conferences still live on today and have been verrrrrry helpful (e.g I got a recommendation letter from one recently for an application and a whole lot of other giving and receiving...). My first experience at financial literacy from Tolu Dima-Okojie has been very helpful to me too. I will be attending the apwen 2023 conference to add more knowledge and experiences to myself so that l have more to share. Will you be attending? As a prominent event on the educational calendar, it served as a platform for sharing innovative ideas, emerging practices, and current challenges in the field of education. The primary objective of this symposium was to foster a forum for discussion and exploration surrounding advances in educational technology, promoting an inclusive and collaborative space. Santiago Ordejón Zuckermaier had the privilege of being part of EduTech Europe 2023 as a member of a highly effective and challenging panel discussion. The theme addressed was: "No 'I' in Change: Engaging all stakeholders in selecting the best tools," emphasizing the collective approach necessary to drive significant and effective changes in education. Selecting the best tools and technologies requires a unified approach and a shared vision among all stakeholders. This edition of EduTech Europe will be distinguished for bringing together some of the most renowned speakers and experts in the field of education and educational technology. Cutting-edge presentations and talks delved into the shift in education, sharing insights derived from new experiences and strategies to adapt to these transitions. The event proved to be an enriching meeting point that provided educators, leaders, developers, and other stakeholders the opportunity to interact, learn, and collaborate, fostering a greater understanding, acceptance, and use of innovative educational technology. From the convergence of ideas to the discovery of new perspectives, EduTech Europe 2023 showcased the growing importance of educational technology in teaching and learning.
