Saving money is a necessary habit to maintain financial well-being. We encourage our members to save a minimum of £5 per month. This allows you to have some funds put aside for emergencies, build up a sum for special occasions, have money for more expensive items, and to give you a general sense of independence and security. It’s always good practice to annually assess your budget and calculate how much you can afford to save each month. #communitysavings #savings #budget #financialwellbeing

Here are some often overlooked aspects when it comes to estate planning for an RESP. A couple things to note: People assume the RESP will automatically transfer to the beneficiary through their estate, but this is not likely to happen without proper planning in a will. Despite the term "beneficiary" used for children in an RESP, the money remains property of the plan subscriber (i.e. the parent). The subscriber, as owner of the account instructs how to pay out funds subject to the RESP provisions.

So ……it’s Talk Money Week and with the current cost of living crisis, it’s more important than ever before that we talk about money. We have heard the term ‘filthy lucre’ describing money in derogatory terms. But money isn’t a dirty word and not talking about it can create the most disruption and pain in relationships. It’s probably responsible for more arguments in families and relationships than almost anything else – from who’s spending too much, to how to pay the heating bill, or whether the family can afford a summer holiday. If you’re a member of PCU and you would like to talk to us about your finances - whatever it is - get in touch. We offer a confidential and empathetic ear. Call 0208 673 2542. Or email info@pcuuk.com Resolve to have more meaningful and constructive discussions about money today. Let’s get money talking!! The Budget and Legislative Analyst of SF issued a new report this week, and the findings are pretty remarkable: over 10,000 SF households received rent relief totaling $61.2 million dollars through our unprecedented local rent relief program, by far the biggest of any City. This shows what happens when we tax the ultra-rich to fund people’s basic needs. Thousands of people were spared eviction and crushing rent debt thanks to this program. When we launched this effort, there were many who said it couldn’t be done, and some who fought it, politically and in the courts. Our vision was to ensure that the health crisis did not become an eviction crisis. I believed then, as I do now, that eviction should be a last resort, not a starting point when people face hardship. With eviction bans, a right to counsel, and a robust local rent relief program, we achieved this vision of preventing mass displacement during the pandemic, saving homes and saving lives. Most people aspire to help their families and for many, helping their children or grandchildren get onto the housing ladder is not an aspiration but a necessity. 🏡 If you would like to help your children onto the housing ladder in the near future, it might be worth considering arrangements that could be slightly less tax efficient, but will at least provide access to funds as and when required. Financial Planning Consultant, Chris Maguire and Emma McCarthy, Partner at HCR Law, consider the best options for you to be able to assist your family onto the property ladder.
