So, the summer has been fast and furious so far with a short breather now before the final festival of the season for us, where we will be taking an event safety and food safety team in to Victorious festival which, for those who do not know, is an 80,000, 3 day music festival in Portsmouth. Check out #VictoriousFestival The summer has been challenging mostly due to the weather and not doing what it should! Pretty much the same as last year but instead of being dry and hot it has been cold, rainy and windy. NOT your typical weather for the UK for either year. As an operations and event safety company, the weather is becoming an every increasing challenge to manage on site. Getting the right resources (equipment, people and time) and procedures (that are disseminated to staff) in place is critical to having a safe event. By most accounts the weather is only going to become more changeable, and it is beholden to us to ensure we advise our clients on the possibilities of these developments and make sure our plans are in place and are robust. Yep, we went to The #DoobieBrothers concert! Awesome!   This concert brought me so much #joy! * The staff inside Choctaw Casinos & Resorts the concert venue were gracious and hospitable (food service not so much. I’ll save that for another post) * It was awesome singing out loud and dancing. I didn’t realize how many hits The Doobie Brothers had… and that I knew!!!! * I loved watching the crowd get lost in the joy of the music The moments and memories are priceless, and it was worth it! WHY THIS MATTERS: A quick reflection first - In March 2020, I asked consumers why certain activities (that had been taken away) brought them joy. This is one quote that has always stuck with me.   “Music is organic - people naturally respond to, resonating in us like our own hearts beating. When it is shared with others it becomes a connector of the human experience. It helps my soul” Fast forward to today: Consumers are making choices about where and how to spend their money. Our data shows that consumers continue to go out less, but splurge more when they do. If your venue consultant is aggressively pushing you down the road of making major acts a feature of your entertainment programme...he is usually just after a quick commission. Running these acts creates an expectation among your clientele that you will be staging them on a regular basis and there just aren't that many of them around that will make a positive difference to your bottom line. The trick is to 'make the venue the drawcard" by creating an environment that people come to regardless of who is playing. This encompasses excellent hospitality, food and beverage, security and the like. Safety is a big plus especially for your female members who want a good night out without some drunken, overly amorous lout making them uncomfortable. Focus on the basics, get a good, consistent entertainment program in place and then maybe feature a major act. If you want to plan a #greatevent or party, you should pay attention to these five essential elements: A - Music and sound - Choose your music according to the theme, audience, and mood of your event. Make sure the sound quality is clear and loud enough for everyone to enjoy. The selection of the sound system and their placement in the venue plays a vital role. B - The team. Hire a professional, #courteous and friendly team to handle the parking, guest reception, sound, lights, food and other services. They should be well-trained and prepared for any emergency or contingency. C - The #ambience. Create a stunning visual impact with the lighting, decoration and layout of the venue. Pick a venue that suits your event type, has enough parking space, seating areas and hangout zones. D - The #food & beverages. Delight your guests with a variety of dishes that cater to their tastes and preferences. Avoid serving anything that might offend or upset your audience. E - The event flow. Keep your guests entertained and #engaged throughout the event. Avoid long delays or gaps in the schedule. I experienced this first hand the other day, with a meal out. I’d never been to Flat Iron before, but they clearly understand the Peak End Rule. Well, they also know the importance of first impressions; with a tasty bowl of popcorn served up as soon as we sat down. But fast forward to the bill, and accompanying it came some mini cleavers, which turned out to be tokens for free (and really good) ice-cream. Yeah, I remember the highlight - the steak. But that ice-cream finish also stands out, and sure did help shape the way I (positively) remembered the overall experience I had! The lesson for festivals and events? You may not be able to shape and influence everyones peak ‘most intense’ points (the highlights), but you sure can try and do something when the time comes for them to leave. And what with the importance of immediately selling tickets for next year's event to this year's customer, the Peak End Rule is something you need to give some attention to. #Festivals #Events #FestivalMarketing #EventMarketing

⚽ Pubs - Who does them better - UK or USA?🏈 Whilst in the States we visited many pubs and bars, from activity focused bars such as Topgolf, to live music venues, sports bars, Irish bars and of course, pool bars ☀️ It got me thinking that whilst fundamentally the same thing, a number of the differences from pubs back home were so drastic, some for the good and some for the bad: ✅ Service - you’re almost always guaranteed a smiling bar member/waitstaff with a number going above and beyond ✅ Drinks Range - you’re guaranteed to find something you like as they tend to have a huge drinks range, often with unique craft beers. Our hotel even had their own! ✅ Entertainment - Every bar we visited had something to enjoy other than just drinking. I personally find this vital in todays day and age with changing habits. Live music, sports and activities kept us in bars and spending more ❌ Price & Purchasing - Granted, we were in the Disney zone of Orlando, so this was never going to be cheap. Still, $9 minimum for a pint (US, not imperial) stings my cheap Scottish heart. Combined with the awkward tab process and mandatory 20% tip, it’s not long before you’re adjusting your daily budget to enjoy a longer night out. ❌ Glassware - Always been an irritant of mine getting those horrible, generic pint glasses in UK pubs. Especially when quality branded glasses are usually accessible from the supplier. The US wasn’t better at this and I don’t think I had a branded glass once. Along side this though, none had the widget to give your lager that iconic head it’s known for, leading to some fairly flat pints. All in all an amazing experience in some unique and awesome bars in a wonderful part of the world. Would I trade my local for one of these pubs though? Nah, l’ll take a fresh £4 pint with a foamy head any day of the week 🍻 The Great British pub has a lot to offer, and with all of Star Pubs & Bars sites being unique in look and feel, there’s plenty of opportunity to make your mark in your community.
