The Hot List 10 stories I am keeping an eye on here at Yahoo Finance: 1. Sonos, Inc. CEO Patrick Spence dropping our HQ -- says stability has come to his business pre-holiday. I have 10 of this guy's speakers. 2. Twitter is an utter state of chaos due to Elon Musk. Employees leaving in droves. Ad dollars well on their way to other platforms. 3. Gap's quarter stunk. Expect some big deals at Gap and Old Navy this holiday season...at the expense of profit margins. 4. Williams-Sonoma, Inc. quarter kind of stunk. Stock is getting hammered on signs of slowing sales of home goods. 5. Ross Stores, Inc. had a solid quarter, echoing decent strength in the off-price channel ahead of the holidays seen at TJ Maxx. 6. I am preparing for Yahoo Finance's one-hour live holiday special this coming Monday. Will be camped out in a mall with some super fun guests. Tis' the season to shop...and analyze retail stocks! 7. Former FDIC chair Sheila Bair back in the Yahoo Finance house live today with her thoughts on the FTX meltdown. Can't wait! 8. Looking forward to catching up with The Vitamin Shoppe CEO Sharon M. Leite live in our studio. Sharon has done awesome work in reinventing TVS. 9. SAP got slapped with a sell rating by Jefferies this morning. Makes sense given the economic slowdown well underway in Europe (and elsewhere). 10. This helpful chart from the team at Citi, showing consumers may spend more cautiously this holiday season -- notably high-end consumers.

Nothing lasts forever. 😀 And that includes stocks like Meta, Amazon, Nvidia, Tesla going up every single day (or almost every single day!). Investors were reminded of this lesson this week amid a broader rout in tech stocks. So many were caught by surprise. Yahoo Finance's Seana Smith is here to say that the tech sell-off may only be starting. https://lnkd.in/e3JWCEgP

Post Folo Up Listening to veteran business journalist Allan Sloan on my Opening Bid podcast reaffirmed to me why (or partly why, there are other deeply rooted reasons too lmao) I approach everything I do in this field with a sense it may all be taken away tomorrow. At the same time, the conversation was another proof point that if you want to excel, you have to do it way better than your competitor sitting at a similar desk across town or across the country. And if you can make that extra phone call at midnight to a source, send that one key email at 3 a.m., or take one more meeting at a bar after a long day, it can pay dividends in big ways. It paid off for my Sunday Morning Brief newsletter that just dropped on Yahoo Finance. 💪 https://lnkd.in/ecbsDyvt

😎 I can think of 10 business news journalists that have shaped how I write, report and question people. 😎 One of them is 7-time Gerald Loeb award winner Mr. Allan Sloan, which we are lucky enough to have as a contributing columnist at Yahoo Finance. He has spent I believe more than 50 years in this profession. What Allan still does to this very day is unique and something slowly vanishing in our field for various reasons. His questions to people in power are without filter, and are with incredible precision. He tells a tale in each of his stories, backed up by numbers and facts. In short, his stories have a soul -- something I continue to adhere to with everything I produce. Interestingly, I had never met Allan before in person -- until this week where I welcomed him onto my Opening Bid podcast. 🎙 What followed was a fun chat on everything from Allan's time speaking with then NYC real estate developer Donald Trump and his coverage of Warren Buffett. Give this drop a watch below or listen on your podcast platform of choice. https://lnkd.in/epqgYR9H

On a 100-degree day in Phoenix, Ariz., new Dutch Bros Coffee CEO Christine B. walked up to a drive-through window for a caffeine boost. "Broista" Samantha Mercado, hanging over the window's ledge with a tablet, eagerly offered recommendations, mentioning that it’s Drink One For Dane day, an annual MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) fundraiser in memory of Dutch Bros co-founder Dane Boersma. Mercado quickly realized Barone was not her everyday java seeker, as the former Starbucks executive offered to get “between the windows” and whip up drinks herself. A fabulous CEO profile drop on this surging Starbucks rival by Yahoo Finance's Brooke DiPalma. https://lnkd.in/eDuf32gK

🌯 Jack Hartung has been the CFO of Chipotle Mexican Grill for 23 years, a stretch almost unheard of in Corporate America. He has seen Chipotle grow both in size (and be spun out of McDonald's) and with its culture during those more than two decades at the helm. 🌯 Believe me, you don't get to be a CFO of a public company for 23 years if you aren't doing a ton right operationally but also, a ton right in terms of being a great collaborative team member. I have gotten to know Jack the past decade and have always valued his views on leadership. So as he gets set to retire from Chipotle soon, I asked him on Yahoo Finance one of his best leadership lessons. Loved his answer: "I would say the most important thing is to build a culture and build teams that match the culture. And what that means to me is hire people that are humble, but they're really confident at the same time. I know that sounds like those two are contradictory, but if you hire people that are very skilled and they're confident and they're skilled, but they're also humble, you could build a team around folks like that. And when a team like that buys into a purpose, you can accomplish great things. People will put the purpose ahead of their own ambitions, which by the way, when people come in and they're talented and they work hard and they work as a good teammate, their career will flourish as well." A double 👍 👍 to that one, Jack. More ⬇
