Did you know : Nuclear medicine has always embraced the progress of technology. With the emergence of AI, we will again be poised to experience a modern renaissance, similar to the one experienced after David Kuhl’s and Roy Edwards’ groundbreaking work in the 1960s. By applying the concepts of radon transform through newly available computing technology, they introduced volumetric cross-sectional medical imaging with SPECT, which was subsequently followed by the development of x-ray–based CT and PET https://lnkd.in/ekZRbGwW

Why Nuclear Medicine over MRI? Not only, will you not be crushed, Nuclear medicine offers distinct advantages over MRI. It can provide functional and metabolic information, aiding in the detection and characterization of diseases. It allows for whole-body imaging, making it useful for staging and monitoring certain conditions. Nuclear medicine also offers higher sensitivity for detecting certain abnormalities, such as bone metastases.

This is a good read if you're interested in a history of Nuclear Medicine! Although it was briefly taught to me in school, this article by Jerry Obaldo and Barbara Hertz delves into the fascinating political interests of third parties that isn't typically mentioned in the evolution of Nuclear Medicine and Radiology. From Wilhelm Roentgen's famous picture of his wife's hand to famous Nobel laureates evading Nazi persecution to the administration of the first Nuclear Medicine Therapeutic agent, this work gives a colorful insight into the beginnings of radiology! https://lnkd.in/dhsqujgJ
