Very insightful finale today to wrap up our 6-episode podcast series #OpenDataCafe.
Daniele Rizzi from digitalEU ran through the short but trailblazing history of #EUOpenData, gave pointers to where we go now and explained how the Open Data Maturity Report is helping take-up and performance.
We came full circle from episode 1 where Stefaan Verhulst, PhD introduced the whole concept of open data. He dived into the various waves that have transformed open data over time, like the freedom of information, civic tech and the potential application of generative AI.
Then we heard, in #2, from John Harnisher, Head of Research at DataKind, who insisted on the importance of data quality, cleaning & preparing data for successful projects. He defined ‘data governance’ and addressed the challenge of tracking data sources.
In #3 Ian Makgill from the SpendNetwork (with 750 public procurement data sources) gave us good insights into how to build
a business on #OpenData, the challenges of doing it and the need to scale up.
Next we invited (#4) Hans Graux from Timelex to guide us through the maze of copyright, database rights and licensing around data use and reuse. We named the podcast ‘Law & disorder: is AI the new Wild West of open data’. 😊
In #5 we had the pleasure of welcoming Dominique Roest from Capgemini to speak about ‘Open data dining’ in relation to open data about small farm holdings ... food for thought on how #OpenData can be used to address societal challenges and about the skills required to make a data project a success.
And so we come to the end of our maiden podcast voyage, which we may one day continue with more developments, stories, case studies and experiences to gather from movers and shakers and to share with you.
