Leadership isn’t a title—it’s an energy, an inspiration. I learned about leadership from some strong men and women. Relationships need fuel. You can provide it. When we offer our time to our people and listen, we do them a service. For a listening ear is a vital component of caring - and kindness too. And by listening, we help them share. By asking kind, gentle and interested questions we not only find out more, we help them to process and learn about themselves too. And those questions, and that listening both generate powerful, enabling relationships so they can be their best. Hey Leader: It costs you nothing to act with kindness. Over my 25-year career, I've had some amazing supervisors and company leaders. And unfortunately, I've had my fair share of not-so-great supervisors and leaders. I think often about the latter, and the negative impact they made on me personally, on our teams, and those we served. There is literally no reason for you as a leader to be a jerk. It doesn't add value or help you in any way. In fact, it robs you of impact that your team could otherwise make. But kindness has a multiplying effect.
