Brett Ballbach’s Post

The clouds may obscure a bit of the foreground, but it looks like an open road, blue skies and a beautiful mountain ahead. Not pictured, the big, exhilarating climb to get to this point.  This spring, I left Amazon after eighteen years. The last twelve of those in Europe (Luxembourg and London), where the centre of gravity has shifted for our family. It would take more than an Amazon six-pager to summarize the things I’m grateful for, notably the persistence and depth of learning, lifelong friendships and breadth of international perspective. As the picture illustrates, I’m not certain exactly what’s behind that thin layer of clouds; but hope it includes some combination of family, friends, physical activity, growing things (literally, planting in the ground and helping them bear fruit), teaching/lecturing, mentoring, board or non-profit work and leaning on the “climb” of thirty years in technology and sports.  I hope to see and hear from many of you along the way.

Thanks all. You know how to make a guy feel appreciated on a rainy (June?) London morning. What a treat to see and hear from such a wonderful cross section of Sonics, Amazon Music, Video, Mobile, FireTV, partners, friends and more.

And, similarly, no six-pager can do justice to your impact. Thanks for being so inspiring, impressive and human. Can’t wait to hear about life on the other side over a coffee soon.

We are looking forward to seeing what you do with those blue skies and open roads, Brett 😀

Brett ir was such a pleasure to work in your team, and that actually made it one of the hardest decision points when I was weighing up leaving Amazon. I learnt a lot from you, and everyone in the team will no doubt miss you, as will Amazon as it's a big loss to them. There is certainly life outside, and I know whatever you end doing up you'll smash it again.

Ditto to what others have called out -- it was always a pleasure working with you, sir, and the (almost) dawn of digital music at Amazon!

Brett - wishing you the best as you head onto a new journey. Appreciate your perspective as you leaned into a career on the international stage. Know that you will find great things ahead - and now you might have more time to explore being a practice player again. 😉 Cheers to you and your family!

Exciting and exhilarating to hear this Brett. It was a genuine pleasure to work together, I learnt a lot and disagreed pretty rarely (for me!). Im certain you won’t regret striking out for a mix of new things. Hope to catch up before long and compare notes ;).
